Beyoncé’s new album Renaissance has just dropped and she is already in hot waters. The track titled, ‘ Alien Superstar‘ is sampled from Right Said Brothers’ I’m too sexy.
After its release, the Right Said Brothers have alleged Beyoncé of sampling their song without permission. But the Single Ladies artist has explained clearly that the permission was granted by the brothers already.
The singer called the allegations disparaging and false. She has shared how her team acquired permission to sample I’m Too Sexy and that her team gave credit to the Pop duo.
Read all the details of the allegations below plus what and how she responded to them.
What is the Allegation against Beyoncé?
Following the release of Beyoncé’s latest album ‘Renaissance’, the singer was accused of sampling without permission. The Right Said Fred who’s 1991 bit ‘I’m too sexy’ was sampled for the Crazy In Love Singer’s track ‘Alien Superstar’. Talking with The Sun, the Right Said Fred shared,
“Normally the artist approaches us but Beyoncé didn’t because she is such an arrogant person she just had probably thought ‘come and get me’ so we heard about it after the fact when you did,”
The brothers Fred and Richard Fairbass also responded to Beyoncé’s statement that they had received “co-writer credit” for the track. The English Pop duo group explained that generally, artists that used their music sent demos before giving them “Co-writer Credit”. They said,
“With this Beyoncé thing there are 22 writers it’s ridiculous, so we would get about 40 [percent],”
“The reason that is happening, we think, is because there is so little money now in the actual salespeople, like friends, golfing partners, engineers, bookers, and the guy who brings the coke, they all want a cut,” they added.
Are the Allegations True or false?
The Grammy Award winner responded to the allegation stated on People,
“Permission was not only granted for its use, but they publicly spoke of their gratitude for being on the album,”
The Single Ladies Singer explained that her team had already reached out to the publisher in May. They had been granted permission in the following month. Afterward, they made the payment in August. The Crazy in Love singer also shared further that the Right Said Fred was given “Co-writer Credit” for the song ‘Alien Superstar’ in the new album. Beyonce concluded that the “accusations are false”.
Renaissance is Beyoncé’s seventh studio album releasing after 6 years after the last album Lemonade came out. It is reported that the new album is the first of a three-part project. The album Renaissance is available for streaming currently on platforms such as Spotify, YouTube, etc.
