Hugh Jackman made his much-anticipated return as Wolverine, and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool was seen traveling the multiverse in search of the perfect Wolverine. Although Jackman managed to live up to the expectations, it was not easy for him to return after 7 years, and it looks like that might be it for a while for the actor.

Ryan Reynolds announced the return of Hugh Jackman for Deadpool & Wolverine in late 2022. The movie began its production in May 2023, but it was halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. It was resumed in November 2023 and finished by January 2024.

However, the preparation for the roles had to begin much earlier than the schedule of production. As seen in the movie, Jackman has definitely spent some time in the gym working out and eating clean to grow those muscles back. And with his age, it would have been more difficult than what it was 7 years ago.

Taking all these into account, an insider told Closer that Deadpool & Wolverine has definitely taken a toll on Jackman’s physical and mental health. The insider said,

It’s the biggest hit he’s ever had, and he’ll get to make any movie he wants in the near future — that is Hugh’s plan, to be sure — but make no mistake, Deadpool & Wolverine took everything out of Hugh.

The insider says that Jackman has given almost 2 years of his life into this film, starting from his preparation for the role to the heavy promotional tour, and now the actor is looking to take a break from the role for some time. The insider added,

That’s why you’re not seeing him dive into another new project or franchise — or even another movie as Wolverine — just yet. Ryan Reynolds may be the Energizer Bunny, but Hugh is spent and needs to recharge his batteries. That’s putting it mildly.

Although fans would love to see him back as the clawed mutant, it is probably better for the actor to have a break from the role. As far as the future of Wolverine in MCU is concerned, he might be seen again in a crossover, potentially in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Jackman’s love for theater is well known by everyone. Now, it looks like the Tony Award-winning actor is turning his attention back to Broadway after securing a fortune with Deadpool & Wolverine. While talking to Closer, another insider mentioned,

Hugh is certain to be involved as a producer — and possibly a performer, as well — because he is the George Lucas of the Greatest Showman franchise.

The insider believes that Jackman will be earning a huge amount as he will also get a share from the profits of Deadpool 3 and the actor might invest them in his Broadway career. Moreover, according to Vanity Fair, The Greatest Showman is set to be transformed into a live theater event.

The Disney Theatrical Group is currently working on a stage adaptation of the movie, which might hit Broadway soon and Jackman might produce as well as perform in it. Casey Nicholaw will most probably direct the stage version.

Although there has been no announcement yet, speculations say that the production will first premiere in Bristol before making its way to the West End and eventually, Broadway.

Deadpool & Wolverine is running in theaters.

The Greatest Showman is available to stream on Disney+.
