The second part of the fifth and final season of the series is scheduled for November 10, 2024 release. Yellowstone initially had a slow start but soon impressed the critics and audience as the seasons progressed. It became one of the most beloved shows in recent years. As fans wait for the final part to drop, let’s dig deep into solving a mystery from the show.

Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan reacts to the show being labeled a ‘red-state show’

Ahead of the hotly awaited final part of the fifth season of Yellowstone, fans have noted that the 2024 U.S. presidential elections, in which former President Donald Trump is going up against Vice President Kamala Harris, is also around the corner. The fans also pointed out that where celebrities are coming out in support of their candidate, creator Taylor Sheridan has kept quiet about who he’d be voting for or supporting in the upcoming election. Sheridan has allegedly never acknowledged if he is a Republican or a Democrat, which gave the fans a chance to revisit his opinion on the show being called a ‘red-state show’.

New York columnist Ross Douthat referred to the series as the red-state show, suggesting that the show is too anti-woke to win awards. In his conversation with The Atlantic, Taylor Sheridan shared,

They refer to it as the conservative show, the Republican show, or the red-state Game of Thrones. And I just sit back, laughing. I’m like Really? The show talks about the displacement of Native Americans and the way Native American women have treated corporate greed the gentrification of the West, and lang grabbing. That’s a red-show?

A Reddit user also shared that one of the reasons Sheridan’s show gets termed as a red-state show is because a lot of stories take place in rural areas and feature men with guns. However, the creator had never mentioned if he belonged to any party.

Other Reddit users have mixed opinions on whether Sheridan is a Republican or a Democrat. They mentioned that the creator walks the line; he knows who his audience is and what they like, adding that he is also aware of the politics of the industry and doesn’t want to be stigmatized as a Hollywood conservative.

Taylor Sheridan, on his appearance on The Joe Rogan Show, had spoken about Colorado’s decision to remove Donald Trump from the 2024 primary ballot. He said,

That’s dangerous shit. People can think of Donald Trump however they want to think of Donald Trump. It does not matter who the individual is. A court in Colorado is going to essentially make a decision based on the trial that has not happened yet. They’re basically saying he’s guilty of something he hasn’t been tried for, and they’re removing him from a ballot.

Sheridan added that maybe the Democrats feel they’re unjustified in that action because they’re terrified of the former president. They fear what is going to happen if he is reelected. The creator, back in 2017, while promoting his movie Wind River commented, ‘Can we just impeach that motherf**ker right now? However, he does not recall making the comment.

It is hard to say which side Sheridan is on as of now because the actor-director has never acknowledged his political views.

Cast of Yellowstone talks about the final season

Ahead of the release of part two of the fifth and final season of Yellowstone, the cast spoke to EW about Kevin Costner’s absence from the show after he decided to quit. Kelly Reilly shared that Costner’s John Dutton’s absence did not change anything about the ending of the series. She said,

The absence was part of the ending. That’s not something that we had to pivot; that was already written into the tapestry of the story. It was always going to happen; it just happened a little bit differently. It would always be five seasons in Taylor Sheridan’s head, but because the show became successful, the network and everyone wanted more.

Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton, shared that the audience should be prepared for a profound and beautiful ending to the story. Reilly had previously shared that they have such a huge following of fans who are really emotionally connected to the show, and some of them are mad that they took so long to return.

John’s absence won’t change anything for Beth or her desire to protect her family’s lineage. The actress added that it’s become more urgent for her. Wes Bentley, who plays James Dutton, also shared that Yellowstone is one of the biggest things he’s ever been a part of, and it’s a character that’s a double-edged sword. He added that it’s satisfying to play a character who’s given so much emotional work to do, but it also takes a toll.

The actors are emotional to let go of their characters but are excited for the audience to meet them one last time on November 10, 2024. Yellowstone is streaming on Paramount+.
