Bill Hader’s Romantic Exit From SNL in 2013 Put His Co-star Seth Meyers in a Difficult Spot With Fiancé
The decades-long comedy sketch Saturday Night Live has been an incredible source of humorous sketches and plays. Some once made Seth Meyers emotional while performing with former co-star Bill Hader.
Bill Hader along with Seth Meyers has captivated audiences for years through SNL, and when it was time for Hader who played Stefon to finally depart from the show, it made co-stars emotional as Meyer was going to get married after a few months and start his own talk show, Late Night.
Bill Hader’s Farewell From Saturday Night Live Made Seth Meyers Emotional
Bill Hader played Stefon in NBC’s comedy institution for eight years along with co-star Seth Meyers, who also departed from the comedy show a few months after as he was getting his own talk show and getting married to attorney Alexi Ashe, in July 2013 after being engaged for almost five years.
Bill Hader’s last humourous sketch portrays him leaving to marry Anderson Cooper. Meyers who also played a role in the sketch interrupts the wedding and brings a heartfelt farewell to his friend. This made both the co-stars laugh as they were holding hands and this is when Meyers humorously mentioned that if he failed to cry at his wedding, it would undeniably put him in trouble.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, while talking about the last sketch with Bill Hader and the humourous incident, Meyers recalled:
“It was Bill’s last show … I also know I’m leaving next year to host Late Night. Bill and I are holding hands and we’re both starting to cry. It was so funny because I was getting married a few months later, and I was like, ‘If I don’t cry at my wedding.”
Seth Meyers then left Saturday Night Live in 2014 to begin hosting his show Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Seth Meyers Reveals The Only Episode With Standing Ovation From Audience
While Seth Meyers was a part of Saturday Night Live, there was an episode which is surprisingly the only episode in which he received a standing ovation from the audience. In this 2008 episode, acclaimed Hollywood actress Anne Hathway and The Killers joined Meyers, and the audience was thrilled to see their performance.
In an interview with Las Culturistas, the Late Night host revealed the episode in which he remembers getting immense appreciation that led The Killers to perform twice. He shared:
“It is the only time I remember when that show was over, the audience gave a standing ovation, and the Killers performed again.”
The former SNL writer even shared when his parents walked away after encountering The Killers for being too loud. Meyers said:
“My parents were at the show, and I introduced my mom to the Killers, and as they walked away, she said very loud, and they heard, ‘Well I don’t know why they call themselves the Killers, they couldn’t be nicer boys.”
Seth Meyers then acknowledged the season aired in 2008 which was well-received by the viewers and helped boost the host his SNL career.
