The Crow, starring Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs in the lead roles, is a reboot of Alex Proyas’ 1994 film. Based on James O’Barr’s 1989 comic book series, the gothic superhero film follows the story of a rock musician named Eric Draven who is resurrected to avenge his, and his fiancee’s murders.

Over the years, the movie gained a cult following and was a critical and commercial success. Besides, fans are also sentimentally attached to it because Lee passed away due to a fatal injury from a prop gun during the film’s shooting. This has also led them to be skeptical about the remake.

In an attempt to salvage the film’s reputation, a CGI marketing strategy has been implemented. In the video posted online, crows can be seen flying around the top of the Statue of Liberty and there are black marks around the eyes and mouth of the Statue, similar to the ones the character Eric has in the film. Here is how some fans are reacting to it:

With reactions like these, the movie’s box-office future looks murky, and the fact that it is CGI is obviously not working well in its favor. Even so, there is no telling how it will perform eventually.

The first reactions to the latest entry in the Alien franchise have been good enough to coax hordes to the theatres. Its practical marketing technique has only confirmed what has been known- the movie is going to resurrect the franchise’s reputation.

Weeks before the movie’s release, actors on the streets of New York were seen wearing facehugger masks as they flailed around, much like the creatures’ victims in the movies (via X). This promotional stunt left the pedestrians in awe and shock.

In addition to the facehugging aliens, the people also witnessed a chestburster making its way out of an actor’s chest, and the disturbing practical marketing strategy has certainly got everyone’s attention, regardless of their interest in the franchise. That speaks volumes for the different marketing strategies of this movie and The Crow.

The Crow will be in theaters from August 23, 2024, and Alien: Romulus is already in theaters.
