Chris Rock’s eagerly anticipated public response to actor Will Smith’s slap at the 2022 Oscars has received high praise, with some calling it the ‘best brutal takedown’ in history.

Rock verbally retaliated against Smith during his new Netflix standup special, Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, which made its live debut on Saturday night. This came a year after the incident that led to Smith’s Academy ban. Rock made fun of Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, during a segment for his response to the Emancipation actor’s decision to slap him on stage during the awards show.

Not only did the comedian criticize Smith and his wife, but he also attacked Meghan Markle during his special, calling her “acting all dumb” for not understanding that the Royal family is the “OGs of racism.”

Moreover, the longtime best friend of the former Suits actress, Janina Gavankar was also present at the live taping of Rock’s popular Netflix show and observed the comedian mock the Duchess of Sussex.

Chris Rock Mocked Against Meghan Markle’s ‘racism claims’

Chris Rock has made jokes about Meghan Markle’s racial epithets directed at the royal family. In a ground-breaking move for Netflix, Rock hosted his own stand-up special, titled Selective Outrage, which went live on Saturday, 4th March 2023.

He brought up Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey from April 2021 during the performance. During their visit to Buckingham Palace, Markle, and Prince Harry allegedly claimed, there were many “concerns” about “how dark” their unborn child, Archie Harrison’s skin might be. Rock went on to speculate as to whether racism had ever affected Markle. “She was just dealing with “in-law s***,” he said, dismissing her belief.

“They’re so racist, they’re so racist,” he said in the persona of Markle, making fun of her claims to Winfrey. Following that, Rock remarked, “Some of that s*** she went through wasn’t racism; it was just some in-law s***.

Rock said that he understood what Markle “went through,” saying, “I know her predicament: Black girl trying to be accepted by her white in-laws. Oh, it’s hard.

Her Close Friend Janina Gavankar Also Took Part in the Show

As she stood up near the TVs and giggled, Janina Gavankar also gave the impression that she was enjoying the show. The Vampire Diaries actress, a longtime friend of hers and a fierce supporter of Prince Harry’s wife, was present at Baltimore’s Hippodrome Theater to watch Chris Rock’s first live global streaming event.

Rock made fun of Markle’s 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, in which she said an unnamed royal had expressed “concerns” about “how dark” their baby might be, prior to the birth of their first son, Archie Harrison. The comedian claimed Meghan Markle was “acting all dumb” for appearing on Winfrey’s show and claiming she was unaware of the possibility of the royal family engaging in racism.

Gavankar reportedly attended earlier performances where Rock allegedly made comparable remarks regarding Markle and the royal family, so she was aware of what to anticipate. She was one of many famous people who attended the performance on Saturday, along with Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, director Spike Lee,  Leslie Jones, and Dana Carvey.

However, neither Meghan Markle nor Prince Harry has made any specific mention of anyone in the royal family having concerns about their son’s skin tone.
