“Blaming the writers onstage is unforgivable”: Jo Koy Gets Called Out as “Classless Train Wreck” After Cringeworthy Monologue at 2024 Golden Globes
Jo Koy is one of the world’s most renowned comedians. Starting his career in 1994, Koy has also been a part of numerous TV shows. While he is widely loved by his fans around the world, it’s okay for a comedian to have his jokes bomb during his set. The same seemed to have happened at the Golden Globe Awards which was being hosted by the comedian this past weekend.
Jo Koy’s opening monologue has been receiving widespread criticism. The comedian seemingly went off script after his joke received mixed reactions and the same seems to have triggered the fans even more.

What did fans say about Jo Koy’s monologue at the Golden Globe Awards?
Jo Koy seemed to rely heavily on inside jokes about the films that were nominated like The Fabelmans and The Banshees of Inisherin. Moreover, he repeated references to Robert De Niro’s advanced age which did not seem to land with the audience.
To make matters even worse, Koy was seemingly aware that his jokes were falling flat and went off script. In a rather uncalled-for rant, the comedian suggested that he received the script just 10 days ago and blamed the writers.
The same led to widespread criticism online as fans expressed their disregard for Jo Koy hosting the prestigious Golden Globe Awards. Take a look at some of the reactions below:

Also telling a room full of people who never hear the word 'no' to shut up is ill advised.

Jo Koy responds to negative feedback on his monologue
After receiving rather negative feedback for his opening monologue at the Golden Globe Awards this past weekend, Jo Koy broke his silence during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Koy once again stated the fact that he only had 10 days to prepare for the hosting gig after being announced on Dec. 21 as a replacement for Jerrod Carmichael.
“Some I wrote, some other people wrote. I wrote some of those and those are the ones you’re laughing at.”
While Koy’s first Golden Globes hosting gig wasn’t necessarily his best, he still deserves credit for a solid effort given the last-minute preparation. Moreover, this experience would certainly prove to be helpful as Koy goes on with his incredibly successful career.
