This new show also follows one such Greek legend. The first season of the show was released in 2020, and the second season was released recently. Whether or not, it will be renewed for a third season depends on this one thing, according to the creator.

Over the years, numerous movies and shows have been made based on the Greek gods of Olympus, and other mythological characters such as demigods. From Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, released late last year, to Dwayne Johnson‘s 2014 movie Hercules, such projects are abundant. There have also been many animated TV shows and video games based on such mythological stories.

Blood of Zeus is based on a character named Heron, made exclusively for the show. Heron, the demigod son of Zeus, the God of Thunder, is responsible for saving Earth and Olympus. The show features gods, monsters, giants, and many other mythological creatures.

The first season of the show premiered on Netflix in October 2020. At the time, in an interview with Inverse, the Parlapanide Brothers said that the release of the second depended on how many subscribers streamed a new show over its first 30 days on Netflix. Charley Parlapanide said:

“We’ve planned out what we would hope to be a five-season arc. It all depends on whether we get viewership [that will decide if] we get a second season.”

The creators had revealed this condition with respect to the second season, which is out now. It can be assumed that the aforementioned condition is also applicable to the renewal of the show for the third season. Here is a review of the second season to help you decide if it’s worth a watch and if the show should be renewed for another season or two, for that matter.

While Friday Night Lights actor Derek Phillips plays the role of Heron in the series, Jason O’Mara voices his father Zeus and Claudia Christian voices the Greek goddess Hera, who is Zeus’ wife. Another recurring character in the show is the demon Seraphim, who is after Heron. This character is portrayed by Canadian actor Elias Toufexis.

Some Netflix shows take longer than others to return for the next season. This could be due to many different reasons. Toufexis reflected on what took Blood of Zeus so long to return for a second season in an interview with Cinema Blend. He said:

“And the reason it took so long was because of COVID, because we were going to get started, and then COVID shut down all these animation studios, then we had to wait and wait and wait. So that’s why it took long, but I’m really excited it’s finally here.”

Toufexis also revealed what will fast-forward the process of getting a third season.

“If we get enough views, especially in those first 10 days, we’ll get more seasons, and it won’t take as long [to arrive].”

He also teased about Season 2 saying that Seraphim will be more of a second lead in this season contrary to the first season in which the character was more of an antagonist.

Blood of Zeus Season 2 premiered on Netflix on May 10, 2024.
