Blue Beetle Director’s Next Project is a Buddy Action-Comedy With a Marvel and DC Star
Just within a few days into the theatrical release and DC’s Blue Beetle has already marked its position on the top rating platforms and the box office. After the back-to-back downfall of projects from the superhero franchise, it has been expected that Xolo Maridueña’s movie can bring back the good old days for DC.
Blue Beetle sets to create history as it is the first Latino superhero project from the house of DC. Amidst the success of the superhero movie, rumors about prominent faces from Hollywood collaborating with the Blue Beetle director are doing the rounds of the entertainment world.
Blue Beetle Director On His Upcoming Project With Jason Momoa And Dave Bautista
As Ángel Manuel Soto directed Blue Beetle has already set the internet on fire with great audience reception and box office numbers, the 40-year-old filmmaker is set to team up with the reputed faces of the biggest superhero franchises in Hollywood. According to the reputed media outlet The Wrap, Ángel Manuel Soto is currently on board with his next project The Wrecking Crew.
As per the recent developments, the Jonathan Topper written project would see Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista and DC’s Aquaman star Jason Momoa in the upcoming project.
The Puerto Rican filmmaker has been making broad headlines after the theatrical release of the DC-backed first Latino project. The movie revolves around the story of a young grad James Reyes played by Xolo Maridueña, who ends up being latched by an ancient alien scarab. Blue Beetle’s ensemble cast includes Xolo Maridueña, Susan Sarandon, Harvey Guillén, and George Lopez.
Blue Beetle Director On His All-Latino Superhero Project With DC
During an interview with the famous media outlet, The Hollywood Reporter, Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto spoke about his association with the billion-dollar superhero franchise and even pointed out how the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes have affected the promotions of the movie. While talking about having maximum Latino-based actors for the movie the director said-
“We wanted to see our history and our legacy on the big screen, in a way that is respectful, and that was an opportunity that we didn’t want to miss. So it was something that we were very committed to, and we wouldn’t take no for an answer. And eventually, Warner Bros. saw it fit, and they allowed us to go back into the theaters.”
As the release of the Blue Beetle coincides with the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the director pointed out-
“It is heartbreaking. I wanted them to have their moment. This is their moment. But at the same time, it’s a necessary thing. So, having them actually sacrifice this opportunity to be on the picket line and to fight for a better future — not only for them but also to secure something better for future generations to come — is a heroic act of its own.”
Unfortunately, the cast members of Blue Beetle were not allowed to promote the superhero movie due to the strikes, Director Ángel Manuel Soto did not keep them out of the spotlight as he honored the cast and kept on updating them with almost everything via group text.
Blue Beetle is currently running in the theatres.
