Blue Eye Samurai is one of the newest animation series that has been making noise on Netflix, which is known for the variety of content it brings to its viewers. The show, comprising eight episodes, is an adult animated action streaming TV series. The creators of this show are a husband-wife team, namely writer Michael Green and his wife Amber Noizumi.

Green and Noizumi not only wrote but also acted as executive producers and showrunners for Blue Eye Samurai. The first season of the show was released earlier this month, and there are chances of a season 2 being made, but all of it depends on a very crucial factor.

Blue Eye Samurai Season 2 Will Only Be Released If Season 1 Does Well

From period dramas like Bridgerton to live-action remakes like the anime One Piece, there is an abundance of content on Netflix. Not to mention that there are other streaming platforms too such as Disney +, Paramount +, Hulu, HBO Max, and many others. Considering all of this, it is very hard for a completely new show to do well in this competitive business.

Mizu – the Blue Eye Samurai

The first season of the show premiered on November 3, 2023. During an interview with Screen Rant, when the creators were asked about the possibility of a second season, Amber Noizumi said:

“We have a lot of stories in our hearts, that we’re just waiting to make. We are not working on a season two. We’re waiting for season one to premiere, and see how successful it’s going to be. We need everybody to watch it, starting November 3rd, and then there will be a season two.”

Blue Eye Samurai creators are willing to make a second season. However, all of it depends on the viewership of the show within the 28-day slot. Even with good viewership, considering Netflix’s obsession with canceling shows, one can only hope that this one does not fall under the radar.

Blue Eye Samurai is set in 17th-century Japan when the country’s borders were closed to the rest of the world. It follows the story of a mixed-race samurai named Mizu who embarks on a journey to find four white men who were in the country when she was born. One of them must be Mizu’s father and she wants revenge for the discrimination she has faced her entire life.

When asked where they got their cinematic inspiration from, Michael Green told Screen Rant:

“Yes, we talked about Clint Eastwood, both in how we were going to introduce the character, the Man with no Name, Good, Bad, and the Ugly. Once Upon a Time in the West was a major touchstone.”

In fact, Green and his wife Amber Noizumi do not mind being called out for picking up stuff from other projects. On the contrary, they take pride in it as the Murder on the Orient Express screenwriter said: “If people say, “They stole from Harakiri,” we’ll be like, “Thank you.” Yes, please. Yes, accuse us of stealing from geniuses.”

There are many references in the series which the writers have confirmed. Blue Eye Samurai is a great show that has an inclusive cast and is a good representation of the inner turmoil of a biracial person.
