Bryan Cranston is Back as Walter White But It’s Not for a Breaking Bad Sequel Series
- Bryan Cranston has reprised his character as Walter White once more.
- Walter appears in an anti-littering PSA for New Mexico, where Breaking Bad was set.
- Cranston suggests that fans let go of Breaking Bad and Walter now.
Bryan Cranston has returned as the beloved drug kingpin, Walter White, one more time, but it is advised to not get your hopes up for a sequel or spin-off series starring the character. It took the actor quite some time to make a breakthrough in show business and then some more to end up on everyone’s radars.
Ever since the show went off-air after completing its five-season run, fans have been eagerly waiting for Cranston to reprise the character once more. He has finally obliged with fans’ wishes but it is for a noble cause instead of a sequel series as some had hoped.
Bryan Cranston Has Reprised His Character as Walter White to Raise Awareness About Anti-Littering
In the last episode of Season 5, after Bryan Cranston‘s Walter White was done with his unfinished business, he passed away in the meth lab at the compound where it all began. A death that could not have been more symbolic considering he died in the world he created through his transformation into Heisenberg. Walter has risen from the dead. Well, sort of.
Recently, an anti-littering public service ad campaign (PSA) ironically titled, Breaking Bad Habits (via YouTube) has been released. In the advert, Walter can be seen rolling a barrel through the New Mexico desert just like he had done in a memorable scene from the show. However, this time around, he is not using the barrel to transport a body.
Instead, he is using it to pick up the trash littered in the desert. Among the items discarded on the ground, a pair of khaki trousers can be seen which is a reference to the pilot episode of the show in which Walter loses similar trousers while making a hasty getaway in the RV. Those same trousers also appeared in the show’s third-to-last episode in Season 5.
The 30-second spot has been posted by Michelle Lujan Grisham, the Governor of New Mexico. Walter squashes a paper cup from Los Pollos Hermanos, the iconic restaurant from the show, before saying, “Keep litter out of my territory.” This is not the first time that Walter has appeared in a commercial as he previously did it alongside Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) for a PopCorners ad for the Super Bowl in 2023.
Bryan Cranston Wants Fans to “let go” of Breaking Bad
Walter might not have been an hero, but fans love the anti-hero that they got in the chemistry teacher-turned-drug kingpin. Naturally, they want to see more of the character even though he is long gone. However, Cranston believes that it is time to “let go” of the character when Entertainment Tonight asked him about prequel series Better Call Saul coming to an end in 2022.
Everything should come to an end. Everything’s cyclical. Our lives are cyclical. The seasons, trees, everything. And, so, it’s okay to have a beginning, middle, and end, and then let it go. I’m proud of what we did.
Besides his appearance in Better Call Saul, Walter also made a cameo in the 2019 movie, El Camino. Not to mention the advertisements that he does once in a while. Maybe will fans have to live with the fact that they will only get to see the character in such one-off things.
Breaking Bad is available for streaming on Netflix.
