It would not be too much of a stretch if we said that Bryan Cranston had acting in his genes or that he was made for show business. His father, Joseph Cranston, was a producer, screenwriter, and actor, and his mother Annalisa Cranston was a radio actress. Even so, the Little Miss Sunshine actor did not have it easy.

Cranston won 6 Primetime Emmy Awards for his performance in this show, and four of those were for his appearance in the episodes, Pilot, Phoenix, Full Measure, and Ozymandias. The show itself has 62 episodes, but the one that is Cranston’s favorite might take some by surprise.

During an interview on The Rich Eisen Show in 2016, when asked which was his favorite episode from the show, he said:

I guess I got to say the ending—the finale, the last one—yeah, because what Vince Gilligan and his staff of brilliant writers were able to do is to construct an incredibly satisfying and justifiable end to this journey.

In the finale, Walter returns to Alberquerque to settle some unfinished business. By the end of the episode, he is physically wounded and dies in a meth lab waiting for the police.

Finale episodes are emotional for fans, especially, when they are emotionally attached to the show and the protagonist. Walter was an anti-hero who was designed in a way that would make fans sympathize with him.

Needless to say, when he died, fans were devastated, to say the least. Cranston believed that the way he died was befitting. He explained the reason he loved the finale episode, saying:

He killed himself at the end, but it was so fitting. When he was waiting for the police to come and everyone was gone, he was looking at his chemistry equipment and touching it so gingerly and tenderly, like a lover, you know. And it’s true—it’s that he was. This was his home. This is what he loved, and this is how he died.

The Argo actor spent years playing the character. He knew Walter inside out so if he believed that this was the best way for Walter’s story to end, then it must have been that way.

Breaking Bad is available for streaming on Netflix.
