It did not take long for Chad Michael Murray to gain the American heartthrob status after he began gaining recognition. From playing the recurring character of a rich kid in the first season of the TV series Gilmore Girls to his lead role as Lucas Scott in One Tree Hill, Murray has come a long way.
Murray once reflected on his real feelings about starring as Lucas in the show, and it could not be more heartwarming. Even so, he does not seem to be returning to its revival, and it has made things quite a bit confusing in all honesty.
Chad Michael Murray on How He Feels About Portraying Lucas Scott in One Tree Hill
Chad Michael Murray began his career in the entertainment industry as a model in 1999 and began posing for brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Gucci before he landed his first acting role in the MTV anthology drama series, Undressed. His next role also came in the second year in Gilmore Girls.
2003 turned out to be a big year for Murray. He played the lead role in The WB’s western TV film, The Lone Ranger, the loved interest in Freaky Friday, and began staring as Lucas Scott in The WB’s drama series, One Tree Hill. While Freaky Friday was a critical and commercial hit, which is getting a sequel after two decades, One Tree Hill is, till date, the fourth longest running series on The CW network.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan in 2015, when asked if playing Lucas was a distant memory, Murray was quick to reply that it was not and there will always be something that will remind him of that show. He further said:
And playing the moral compass for that show, which is what Lucas was, was a great way for me to learn as an artist, and to start understanding emotions and understanding myself. And it gave me the opportunity to grow up as a human being, away from Los Angeles, out in North Carolina, which was incredible.
The A Cinderella Story actor also expressed his gratitude to the fans for all their support and admitted that the show was a big part of his life. Lucas Scott and Peyton Sawyer’s (Hilarie Burton) love story was central to the show for the first six seasons. Both actors exited the show after the sixth season although Murray returned for a special appearance during the ninth season.
Chad Michael Murray May Not Be Returning for the Revival of One Tree Hill
Earlier this year, Deadline reported that a sequel series with Hilarie Burton and Sophia Bush in the lead is in the works. The actresses will be reprising their respective roles as Peyton Sawyer and Brooke Davis and also work on the show as executive producers.
While other members of the cast are in talks to return for the show, Murray and his former co-star, James Lafferty, who played his on-screen half-brother have not been approached for it yet. The Agent Carter actor told the Los Angeles Times that he had spoken to Lafferty when he heard the news.
We’re not doing it because no one’s ever picked up the phone and said, ‘Hey, we’re doing this,’ so we’re not doing it.
Even so, he is happy for the fans and expressed as much by saying that he wants the reboot to happen for them. There is no doubt that Murray would have loved to return to the series if he was offered. The show has not begun production yet so there is still hope for his return.
