Channing Tatum Will Be Pleased to Hear What Demi Moore’s Co-star From Her 1990 Blockbuster Has to Say About His Upcoming Remake of the Thriller
Channing Tatum’s first appearance on the screen was as a dancer in Ricky Martin’s She Bangs music video in 2000. Following this, he began modeling for brands like Armani and Abercrombie & Fitch before moving to commercial ads and minor roles in movies. It was not until 2006’s Step Up that he played a lead role in a film.
Tatum gained further recognition with roles in movies like She’s the Man and Magic Mike. These days, he is in talks of appearing in a remake of the 1990 movie Ghost, which starred Demi Moore and Tony Goldwyn among others. Recently, Goldwyn was asked his thoughts on this and the White House Down star will find his answer pleasing.
Channing Tatum’s Ghost Remake Got a Heads-Up from Demi Moore’s Co-star
For those unversed, directed by Jerry Zucker, Ghost is a paranormal romance film starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore in the lead roles. It follows the ghost of a murdered banker Sam Wheat (Swayze) who seeks the help of a psychic (Whoopi Goldberg) to warn his girlfriend (Moore) about his murderer.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Tony Goldwyn, who played Sam’s friend and co-worker, was asked about his thoughts on the remake.
I didn’t know that. Look I love Channing Tatum, he’s so gifted. I’d be really excited to see what he does with it. It’s a great story and a timeless story and I think if done well it could work just as Gang Busters as it did 30 whatever years ago.
Upon release, the film achieved unexpected commercial success with a worldwide gross of $505.7 million on a budget of between $22 million (via Box Office Mojo), making it the highest-grossing film of the year and at the time, it was the third-highest-grossing film of all time. Not to mention that it was nominated for five Academy Awards.
Channing Tatum’s Production Company Has the Rights to Ghost
Remakes are not unheard of in Hollywood. However, it has to be noted that the decision to work on remakes comes with a lot of risks as they have a pre-determined level to match. If they do the original justice, well and good. If not, the audience will not hesitate to draw it through the mud. Channing Tatum seems to be willing to take the risk.
Earlier this year, in a cover story for Vanity Fair, Tatum revealed that his production company Free Association has the rights to the 1990 romantic fantasy classic and he’s trying to develop a remake. The outlet reported:
He tells [us] about how his production company, Free Association, is trying to pull together a remake of ‘Ghost,’ with him potentially playing the Patrick Swayze role.
That said, the actor stated that they will make some changes to get rid of some of the problematic stereotypes, which might not sit well with the audiences of this generation.
Ghost is available for renting and buying on Apple TV.
