Channing Tatum made a cameo as Gambit in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The actor’s cameo in the movie came as a surprise for the audience, who had been waiting for the actor to have his dream role.

Back in 2022, during a conversation with Variety, Tatum shared that he and producer Reid Carolin spent almost four years developing the story for 20th Century Fox, which never happened. He said,

The studio really didn’t want us to direct it. They wanted anybody but us, essentially because we had never directed anything. Once Gambit went away, I was so traumatized. I shut off my Marvel machine. I haven’t been able to see any of the movies. I loved that character. It was just too sad. It was like losing a friend because I was so ready to play him.

But now, thanks to Reynolds & Shawn Levy, Tatum could finally play his dream role in a Marvel movie, even though it is just a cameo. The actor took the opportunity to share behind-the-scenes footage of him training to play the character. In the video shared, the audience can see the actor mastering the choreography of throwing cards and practicing fight choreography with Bo staff.

The audience was impressed with Tatum’s dedication towards the character and wrote under the video that he owns the character. A user wrote, ‘He deserves his solo movie’. Another fan mentioned, ‘I love how dance influences your style here. You literally made this character your own, and I’m obsessed.’ A third user noted, ‘We need a Gambit movie. Channing Tatum has proven he’s got what it takes.

A lot of fans who, along with Tatum, had hoped for him playing the Gambit showcased their support for the actor by appreciating his dedication and hard work. The actor who finally got a taste of playing his dream role in Deadpool & Wolverine is hopeful to lead a standalone movie as Gambit. Channing Tatum appeared at the premiere of Blink Twice at the DGA in West Hollywood, where during a quick conversation with Variety he said,

I sure hope so. From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please. Of course, I have said it. I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God.

Tatum, who impressed the audience with his cameo in the movie, did not hold himself back from thanking dear friend and co-star Ryan Reynolds, who made it happen. He shared a post for the actor on his social media, writing,

I thought I had lost Gambit forever. But he [Reynolds] fought for me and Gambit. I will owe him probably forever. Cause I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me. I love ya, buddy.

The Magic Mike actor also went ahead and thanked the director Shawn Levy by writing that he is a brilliant creator on every single level. He added that all things happen for a reason, and he’s so grateful to be a part of this movie. Channing Tatum described Deadpool & Wolverine as a masterpiece.

Ryan Reynolds, in his post, also noted that Tatum is not only a once-in-a-generation talent, but he’s a genuinely good man. The Canadian actor acknowledged Tatum’s dedication for Gambit and concluded by stating that he knows what it feels like to will a character into existence.
