- Chappell Roan rose to fame earlier this year and has been often seen making headlines.
- Roan has confronted photographers on red carpet quite a few times now.
- The Good Luck, Babe singer has also called out her fans and her former theatre teacher.
Chappell Roan began posting videos on YouTube in 2013, and in late 2014, her original song Die Young landed her a deal with Atlantic Records. Her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, was released in 2023 and by early 2024, it was declared a sleeper hit.
Recently, Roan has become a household name for the reasons most celebrities don’t want to be known for. She is setting the record straight when it comes to boundaries. The icon keeps calling out impolite and obsessive behaviors of not only the paparazzi or the photographers, but her fans, and even her theater teacher.
Chappell Roan Lashed Back on the MTV VMAs Red Carpet
Last month, on the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet, Roan seemed to have had enough when someone screamed swear words while her stylist was fixing her dress. In a viral X video, Roan screamed back: “You shut the f*ck up! Not me bi*ch.“
Later, during the event, she called the night “horrifying” while talking to Entertainment Tonight, claiming that for someone who becomes anxious around a lot of yelling, it is not the best experience to be on the red carpet.
Chappell Roan Called Out Fans for “Harassing” Her for Pictures and Hugs
It is quite common for celebrities to be stopped for pictures and autographs while going about their way. Most just comply with whatever is expected of them, but Roan is not one of them. In August 2024, she claimed that she was “harassed” by some fans for pictures and hugs, which she called out on TikTok. She said:
I don’t give a f*ck if you think it’s selfish of me to say no for a photo or for your time, or for a hug. That’s not normal. That’s weird.
She initially faced a lot of backlash for her statements. However, later, several celebrities expressed their support for her and revealed their own stories.
Chappell Roan Did Not Hesitate to Call Out Her Former Theater Teacher
Growing up, a lot of people do not have the best experiences when it comes to some of their teachers. Roan is no exception, but she certainly made an exception during her performance at the Austin City Limits Music Festival by singing a different introduction to her song, My Kink is Karma. According to Daily Mail, she said:
I usually dedicate this song to my ex, but I dedicate this song to my f**ing theater teacher…who kicked me out, b**ch! I’m here!
This intro incited a chain of tweets by fans who have had similar experiences with their teachers. This is not the first time fans have taken her side, and certainly would not be the last.
Chappell Roan Canceled Two Shows to Priortise Her Mental Health
Although mental health is given the top priority now, not many artists dare to call off their projects on account of mental health. That is obviously not the case for the Pink Pony Club singer. She called off two of her performances at the All Things Go music festival in New York just a day before it was about to begin. According to TODAY, she wrote in an Instagram story:
I apologize to people who have been waiting to see me in NYC & DC this weekend at All Things Go, but I am unable to perform.
She claimed that everything was getting too overwhelming for her over the past few days and that she needed some time to take care of her mental health. Although the announcement was sudden, she had constantly let people know in the past that she was struggling with her mental health and the challenges of sudden fame.
Chappell Roan Confronted a Photographer on the Red Carpet
Roan recently had a tense exchange with a photographer at the premiere of Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour at NYA Studios EAST in Los Angeles. In a viral video from the red carpet, the Good Luck, Babe! singer is seen walking toward a photographer.
She claimed that the photographer was disrespectful to her at the Grammys and demanded a proper apology.
You yelled at me at the Grammy party. Yes, I remember. You were so rude to me. And I deserve an apology for that. You need to apologize to me.
It remains unclear whether or not she got the apology she demanded from the photographer because a team member can be seen stepping in to diffuse the situation. Roan has been quite vocal about her grievances so far, and most fans also seem to be supportive of her.
