Charlie Hunnam Joins Glen Powell’s Hit Man Co-star in Amazon Prime’s Upcoming Action Thriller Based on Famous Graphic Novels
Charlie Hunnam is gearing up to join a project that will see him in the role of a criminal. It is not the first time he has portrayed such a character as he has previously played such characters; one such character is Raymond Smith in Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film The Gentlemen.
Hunnam has worked on projects of a variety of genres in his career spanning over two decades and has now joined the upcoming Amazon Prime crime thriller series, Criminal. One of the other cast members of this show is Glen Powell’s Hit Man co-star Adria Arjona.
Charlie Hunnam Has Joined the Cast of Criminal
Charlie Hunnam was not actively looking to start a career in the entertainment industry when he was cast in the Newcastle-based teen drama Byker Grove. Even so, he embraced it. When he was 18, he got his first major role in Russel T Davies’ Channel 4 drama Queer as Folk. Now, he has some of the best movies and shows on his resume.
Hunnam’s first role as a criminal came in FX’s action crime drama TV show Sons of Anarchy, in which he played the role of outlaw Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller, the leader of an outlaw motorcycle club, for seven seasons. In addition to this, he also appeared as an Australian man convicted of armed robbery who escaped from prison and fled to India in the Apple series Shantaram.
Variety recently reported that The Lost City of Oz star will appear in the show Amazon Prime Video Criminal as Leo. The character is described as:
A brilliant master thief who sees all the angles, and specializes in plans with no guns and no violence. Like a chess player, Leo thinks three moves ahead. Other crooks think he’s a coward, especially compared to his father Tommy, who went to jail for murdering the most feared man in the city, Teeg Lawless.
The series is based on Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips’ eponymous graphic novels and is being described as “an interlocking universe of crime stories.” The other members of the cast are Glen Powell’s Hit Man co-star Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, and Kadeem Hardison.
What Else Is Known About the Upcoming Criminal Series?
The first comic series of Criminal was released in October 2006 and originally published by Marvel Comics’ Icom Imprint and then later by Image Comics. The graphic series explores the clichés of the crime genre while maintaining a realistic and believable narrative.
Writer Ed Brubaker will serve as co-showrunner and executive producer on the live-action series along with Jordan Harper. Illustrator Sean Phillips also executive produces alongside Sarah Carbiener and Phillip Barnett. The first four episodes will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.
