Charlize Theron is no stranger to action films. Her early days saw her taking on lead roles in films such as Aeon Flux, while more recently she has expanded into huge franchises, including Mad Max and the Fast and Furious. However, what some people may forget, is that Theron has also dabbled in the superhero genre. She starred alongside Will Smith in the box-office hit, Hancock, back in 2008.

Hancock features Smith playing an alcoholic vigilante. Even with powers of flight and invulnerability, John Hancock is hated by the public, due to his ‘heroics’ often doing more harm, than good. Hancock saves Jason Bateman’s public relations consultant who vows to make Hancock’s public image better.

Theron plays Bateman’s ex-wife and it is revealed she also has powers.

The film debuted the same year as Iron Man and was quickly forgotten, due to the power of the cinematic universe. However, Theron stills appears to be confident about it.

In an interview promoting her new Netflix film, The Old Guard, Theron explains that talks of a sequel were originally on the cards.

“You know, for a while we [talked about a sequel]. I think closer to when the movie came out, but not in recent years, no. We’ll be superheroes with our walkers, you know. And I’ll still go! I’ll still make that movie, I would do it in a heartbeat.”

It’s interesting to see Theron still has a soft spot for the film. What’s even more interesting is the time we’re currently in. With superheroes dominating the cinematic landscape, perhaps its time to revisit the world of Hancock.
