Chris Hemsworth is giving voice to a young Optimus Prime in this new Transformers film. But the funny thing is, there is a moment in the clip that has some connections to one of Hemsworth’s most famous Marvel scenes.

Optimus Prime’s Headless Shot Gives a Nod to Avengers: Infinity War

Paramount Pictures showed the first clip of Transformers One during the Kids’ Choice Awards. The clip shows young Optimus Prime and his friends, including Megatron, trying to transform for the first time, and it doesn’t go smoothly for Prime.

Optimus Prime ends up with his head stuck in his chest while trying to transform. It’s a hilarious moment that has got everyone’s attention. But it does have a connection to Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor in Avengers: Infinity War.

In Infinity War when Thor had a chance to take out Thanos, he aimed for the chest instead of the head, and it let Thanos snap half of the universal population out of existence. Now in Transformers One, Hemsworth’s character literally loses his head. It is like history is repeating itself but in the most awkward way.

The clip has a cartoon vibe, which is pretty cool for fans who grew up watching Transformers on TV. It is not just Optimus Prime having trouble, though. Megatron, Elita, and Bumblebee are all fumbling around as they try to figure out their new transforming abilities.

Speaking of the cast, this movie has some big names. Apart from Hemsworth, it has Brian Tyree Henry as D-16 (young Megatron), Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, and Keegan-Michael Key as B-127 aka Bumblebee. Other than them, there are Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm as well.

Transformers One Plot and Reason Behind Complete CGI

Transformers One will show how Optimus Prime and Megatron started out as best friends before becoming mortal enemies. It is set on their home planet, Cybertron, before the war that destroyed everything.

Director Josh Cooley shared the reason why they went with a CG look instead of the classic 2D animation. In an interview with IGN, he said,

Because of where it exists in the timeline, there was no reason to have humans. So the live-action aspect of it was off the table. This whole thing being on their planet and Cybertron, which is completely made of living metal, which means that it can transform itself and move around, and that our characters are robots, it just felt natural to tell this movie in CG.

However, Cooley is not just going for flashy visuals. He wants the movie to feel real, even if it is animated. In the interview, he mentioned that his aim is to make the audience lose themselves in the storytelling and visuals and make them forget that they are watching an animated film.

The story is going to show how Optimus, formerly known as Orion Pax, and Megatron aka D-16 got their transforming powers by accident. They are just regular worker bots who stumble onto something big. The movie also has some serious character growth.

By the end of the movie, the audience will probably see them transform like experts and might even get some hints about why Optimus and Megatron end up on different sides.

Transformers One will be released in theaters on September 20, 2024.
