Warning: Spoilers for One Piece Chapter #1120

It’s no secret that One Piece has been preparing for its grand finale for more than ten years, and now some of its long-ago setups are starting to come into play. One of them is the “Will of D.” and its significance in the story. When Kureha disclosed that the late Pirate King’s real name was Gol D. Roger, she also brought up “Will of D.” for the first time.

What we know about the “Will of D.” till now is that it seems to be strongly related to Inherited Will, a concept that encompasses passing one’s dreams, goals, and ideals to the next generations so that the “will” can be fulfilled.

Those who retain faith in their will to be inherited accept their mortality and entrust their “will” to the next generation. This behavior seems linked to the D. carriers as they do not fear death and simply accept their fate.

An X user and popular One Piece informant, @pewpiece, posted the spoilers for Chapter 1120 of the series. One of the spoilers mentions a flashback featuring Vegapunk and Clover in Punk Hazard where Clover reveals that he also bears the initial “D.” in his name to Vegapunk.

Now this would have been any random information had it not been for a major One Piece theory that hypothesizes the presence of a traitor amongst the lot who is faking having the initial “D.” in their name.

The meaning of the “Will of D.” is largely ambiguous, despite several theories and analyses. After all this time, nobody truly knows what it might signify. As Vegapunk was ready to address people who hold the “Will of D.”, his message abruptly came to a stop.

The idea that someone is pretending to have the Will of D. has been widely theorized. The theory is pretty simple and makes a lot of sense. If someone can hide that their name bears the initial “D.”, anyone can fake it.

How Did The Carriers Of “Will of D.” Change The World?

It has been observed that many individuals who possess the “Will of D.” frequently have some sort of involvement in significant historical events. Nefeltari D. Lilli, a member of the First Twenty royals who played a key role in the establishment of the World Government, is the most notable example of a “Will of D.” user.

Centuries later, the legendary pirate captain Gol D. Roger commanded the seas as the supreme pirate and launched the great pirate age. As the “Will of D.” carrier, Monkey D. Dragon is ready to take the world by storm. Unlike his Navy father, Monkey D. Garp, Dragon is a genuine pirate and the head of the Revolutionary Army.

The foster brothers Ace and Luffy are major users of the “Will of D.”, repeatedly causing and becoming entangled in historical events. In the concluding chapter of the story, Blackbeard and Monkey D. Luffy have the potential—and in many respects, have already—to alter the course of history.
