Deadpool & Wolverine is the first MCU movie to have an R-rating, which the studios retained after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019. Hugh Jackman returns to portray Wolverine on screen after seven years, and fans cannot get more excited than they already are. Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds clarified some of the rumors surrounding their movie ahead of its release.

Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy address King Charles III’s cameo rumor

Ahead of the release of Marvel Studios’ insanely hyped R-rated movie Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the director decided to clear the air regarding some of the bizarre cameo rumors.

At the press conference held in Central London, director Shawn Levy, and Ryan Reynolds were asked about one of the wildest rumors they’d heard surrounding their movie. Reynolds noted that it had to do with the appearance of King Charles III. He said (via Discussing Film’s X account),

I heard King Charles was in the film. I’m like, ‘no s**t. We all then thought, ‘Could we make that happen?’

Levy then chimed in to clarify that they had a long conversation about that very strange rumor and added that they could neither confirm nor deny whether they had acted on it or not. There have been a lot of rumors about who might make a cameo in the movie, and one of those persistent rumors is Taylor Swift’s appearance in the movie.

It’s no hidden fact that Swift and Reynolds are close friends, and he and his wife Blake Lively have been Swift’s biggest supporters. Which is why fans started to stir up the conversation around the singer’s appearance in the movie. But in an interview with EW, Shawn Levy said,

We didn’t want any of the cameos or characters to be the story of the movie. But they are peppered throughout. There’s a lot of characters. The internet is full of rumors about the multitude of character cameos that are in this movie. Some rumors are true, some are way off base.

The only rumor that turned out to be true was Sabretooth’s appearance, along with Pyro’s. Levy also added that the level of expectation and anticipation certainly creates a lot of spoiler anxiety that keeps him up at night, but it also keeps him focused on the highest standards for the movie. The filmmaker, who will soon start working on a Star Wars project, added that with a movie like Deadpool & Wolverine, where fans have made sure that the studios know that they care and will show up, he wants to make sure that they make the fans’ experience most joyful and let them have a good time.

Other characters that are rumored to appear in the movie include Halle Berry as Storm, Ben Affleck as Daredevil, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Doctor Strange, and more. Reynolds’ best friend, Rob McElhenney, is contracted to appear in the movie. He joked and said that he cannot necessarily share what character McElhenney plays in the movie for fear of being shot down by the Marvel drone that follows him and his kids around.

Ryan Reynolds shares that he feels free while playing Deadpool

The third installment of the Deadpool film franchise is just around the corner, and Reynolds has been sharing his experience working on the movie. In an interview with PA News Agency (via Yahoo! ), the actor shared at an event in London,

Deadpool is one of those characters who’s very unpredictable. I don’t know if I could speak specifically to that style, other than to say that I feel more free when I play the character than almost anything else in the world.

Reynolds shared that he understands how rare that air is to breathe, and on the day they wrapped up filming for the movie, he had never felt more sad or depressed to be walking off a film set. Hugh Jackman, who is also very excited to return to portray Wolverine on-screen after a very long time, added that it was incredible to watch Reynolds play Deadpool on-screen, who is funny.

Jackman jokingly added that Ryan Reynolds in real life is dull, so it was incredible to watch his transformation. Talking about his comeback, he said,

For me, having played this character for 24 years, there’s a whole side of Wolverine you’ve never seen before in this movie. These guys wrote it so beautifully and carefully. And I can tell you, fans are going to dig it. There’s some stuff I’ve been scratching around for a long time to try and solve, and we solve it here.

Hugh Jackman lastly added that returning to play Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine alongside Reynolds was worth it.

The movie comes out in theaters on July 26th, 2024.
