‘Count Your Days’: LGBTQ Community in Uproar after Azealia Banks Throws Mic at Audience in Disastrous Pride Event
Azealia Banks, an American rapper known for her song 212, has landed herself in trouble again. The controversial rapper, who identifies as bisexual, performed on Day 1 of the Wynwood Pride in Miami, Florida, at RC Cola Plant on June 10th, 2022. The show, which was organized to celebrate and respect LGBTQ+ identities, turned out to be a disaster for both the audience as well as the rapper.

During her performance, Azelia went on a rant about the event promoters’ supposed unprofessionalism.
“For the last good, like, month and a half, I’ve just been being f—ed with. I’ve been being f—ed around with, you know? Set time’s been moved and like, ‘Oh, you’re headlining. No, you’re not headlining. Now you’re not this.’ I’m really not happy to be here,” the rapper stated while laughing.
Banks continued her rant by saying, “I’m so unhappy to be here. But what did the fans ever do? What did you guys ever do, right? I’m trying, y’all. But it’s difficult.”

But Azealia’s rant did not end with her performance, and she later took to Twitter to further elaborate on the situation. The singer blamed the event promoters once again and said,
“Wynwood Pride was way too ghetto. I had to bounce,”
In her rant, she blamed the promoters for changing her performance time from 10 pm to 1 am and ignoring her plea to avoid having dry ice since she is allergic to it. Banks stated that the use of dry ice despite her request caused her to feel dizzy and that she could “barely stand” due to its effect. Shortly after the rant, Azealia’s Twitter account was suspended.
Her rant was met with memes and criticism by Twitter users,

It's like why did Azealia Banks go to LA pride if she's just going to bash on the gays?💆

Azealia Banks’ problematic history with the LGBTQ+ community
This is not the first time that Azaelia has done something contentious. In 2016, the rapper called Zayn a “Curry scented n***a”. Despite being a member of the LGBTQ community, Azealia has said several homophobic and transphobic things in the past. In one incident, the rapper compared the LGBTQ community to the KKK and stated that she wanted to “spray a gay man in the face with pepper spray.” In 2020, she made several transphobic remarks and said that trans individuals don’t deserve free healthcare.

The surprising thing is why a rapper with such a problematic history with the LGBTQ+ community was invited to perform at a Pride event in the first place. No wonder the show was a disaster considering the highly inappropriate demeanor of the rapper.
