Saoirse Ronan delivered lambs for The Outrun
Every day, actors go to crazy lengths to either prepare for their roles or just bring the essence of the fictional world alive. Method acting aside, many actors have now started to immerse themselves in the fictitious worlds completely so that they can portray the roles to perfection. Saoirse Ronan did something similar for her upcoming drama movie The Outrun.
Directed by Nora Fingscheidt, the movie is based on the eponymous book that charts the journey of Rona who struggles with coming to terms with her past and attempts a change of scenery to get her wits together. Detailing her experience filming and preparing for the movie, Ronan revealed that she helped deliver seven lambs on a farm! On The Late Late Show, the actress shared,
We did the principal photography for the film in September but we had to go up to Arney in April so that it would coincide with the lambing season and I spent a couple of days on a few farms and with the farmers. They were like get in there you tackle it you get in there pull it out shake it about rub it a bit stick some hay up its nose and you know that’s it and then just sort of as sending on this way.
I was like right okay and then I was sent into the shed and we got ready at like 3 or 4 am on a couple of days in a row just so we were ready. As soon as we saw that a lamb was ready to go I was just kind of thrown in at the deep end and I delivered like seven lambs which I think is really great.
With such endeavors, Ronan has joined the ranks of actors like Christian Bale, Daniel Day-Lewis, and many more who went above and beyond for their movie roles. While Bale fluctuated his weight for The Machina and Vice, Lewis actually worked as a cobbler to get the nuances of his performance correct. Ronan, with this epic action, has truly proved herself worthy of all the praise.
Is The Outrun a true story?
The Outrun is based on Amy Liptrot’s memoir as she recounts her experience with drug addiction that eventually led to her worsening condition. She decided to take charge of her life and change the things that were bothering her.
By moving to the countryside, she reveled in the beauty of nature around her as she continued to deal with her demons. If Liptrot is the protagonist of the story, then the Orkney landscape is the secondary character that takes viewers on a cinematic journey.
The movie has been deemed poetic and extremely moving with Ronan’s performance charming the audience in every scene. Early reviews of The Outrun are mostly positive as the crew waits for the movie to open for the masses.
The Outrun releases on October 4, 2024.
