Daniel Day-Lewis Wanted to Be the Tallest Actor In Lincoln

The Lincoln star Daniel Day-Lewis was appreciated the most for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln. Although for giving this stellar performance the actor had a rather unusual condition. As per the reports, while filming Lincoln, Day-Lewis demanded to be the tallest actor on the set.

Day-Lewis opted for a bit of method acting for playing the role of former president Abraham Lincoln. As per the reports from the set, the actor spent more than a year studying the character and also used his instincts to come up with a voice for his character.

Although apart from this Day-Lewis was very strict about his height on the set. As per the reports Abraham Lincoln was 6ft and 4 inches tall. While Day-Lewis wasn’t too far away from the required height, he made it necessary to ensure that he stood taller than any other average person as that was the case with the former president.

As reported by Hollywood.com talking about this Day-Lewis said “Every time Steven said, ‘How ’bout so and so?’ I said, ‘How tall is he?’ It was like buying clothes by the yard. I wanted to be the tallest person in the room.”

Even though this demand by Day-Lewis might have been very difficult for director Steven Spielberg, it indeed helped him to stand out in his performance.

Daniel Day-Lewis Spotted 6 Years After Retirement

After announcing his retirement back in 2017 the Lincoln star Daniel Day-Lewis was photographed in New York City in May this year. The Oscar Winner was spotted walking on the sidewalk with his wife Rebecca Miller. The actor was seen wearing a pair of yellow sweats, a black zip-up hoodie a blue striped shirt, and a black baseball cap.

The actor announced his retirement back in 2017 through his rep Leslee Dart. Talking about this to the People, Dart said that Day-Lewis will no longer be working in the film. “He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject,” she continued.

While Day-Lewis was well known for his role as Abraham Lincoln, he was the first actor to win three Oscars for the lead Best Actor category for Lincoln from 2012, There Will Be Blood from 2007, and My Left Foot from 1989.
