‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Makes Reference to MCU’s Spider-Man but Its Far Away From What Fans Dreamed- Report
- Daredevil: Born Again references Spider-Man in the second episode.
- Spider-Man CANNOT appear in Marvel Cinematic Universe's live-action series.
- Daredevil: Born Again actor Charlie Cox praises Jon Bernthal.
Marvel Studios’ highly awaited series Daredevil: Born Again, created by Dario Scardapane, Matt Corman, and Chris Ord, is just a few days away from its premiere. It is the thirteenth television series in the MCU and is a revival along with being a continuation of Netflix’s Daredevil, which premiered from 2015 to 2018.
Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead serve as the lead directors of the series, which stars Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, and more. Ahead of its release, critics had the opportunity to watch the first two episodes, and the reviews have been incredible. However, they noted that one character who cannot as of now appear in MCU’s television series appeared in a very small cameo.
Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again surprisingly references Spider-Man
Charlie Cox returns as Matt Murdock in the highly awaited Daredevil: Born Again in the first week of March 2025. The series is going to serve as Man Without Fear’s full-fledged entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While fans are eagerly waiting for the series to premiere, some have asked if Spider-Man will show up. Answering the question, Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin, appeared on Jake’s Takes and shared that his character talks about ‘a kid dressed like a spider‘ in the second episode.
No more details were shared, but it’s for sure that Spider-Man has been referenced in the upcoming show, even though it’s now very much confirmed that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker cannot appear in a live-action series by Marvel.
Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum was recently asked why Holland’s Spider-Man can’t appear in a series, which he shared on Phase Hero,
They [Sony] have the long-form television rights; we can do 30-minute animation.
Winderbaum’s answer did make a lot of fans who had hoped Spider-Man would appear in the future MCU live-action series.
However, there is very little Marvel Studios can do anything about it as of now. But Spider-Man will be back on screen in July 2026 with its fourth installment.
Charlie Cox calls Daredevil: Born Again co-star Jon Bernthal ‘brilliant’
Fans rejoiced when it was confirmed that Jon Bernthal would reprise his role as The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again. Charlie Cox was also delighted to see Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, back by his side. At a recent press conference, Cox shared (via Games Radar),
He [Bernthal] has a couple of really great scenes, potentially iconic moments. They’re an absolute joy to shoot! I feel like Jon and Charlie are very different people, but Daredevil and Frank are much more similar to one another. So it’s fun to play with that.
Cox further noted that often when he’s in a scene as Daredevil with Frank, he would pull him closer to a Daredevil that Cox is frightened of and excited by. He noted that maybe it’s written and baked in the material as well.
Talking about Bernthal, the actor shared that The Walking Dead alum loves to improvise and often rewrite his character’s lines in the moment. The actor noted,
Bernthal is so brilliant; he didn’t mind having to change his approach for him. There was a scene in this scene, where he cares so much; he gets so into it like he thinks about it; it’s almost like a pain body. We had this scene, and he called me the night before, and he said, ‘Some of these lines don’t make sense for me from where I’m at; I need to mess with these a little bit.
Charlie Cox recalled that Bernthal changed some of his lines, and eventually, he had to too. But as they reached the set, the actor had made a whole new set of lines. The early reviews for Daredevil: Born Again have been incredible, with critics stating that it could be one of the strongest Marvel Studios series.
Daredevil: Born Again premieres on March 4, 2025, on Disney+.
