David Tennant’s BAFTA Monologue Was No Less Than A Starry Affair

Hamlet star David Tennant’s BAFTA monologue has become a talking point in the entertainment industry. He even went on to rope in prominent actors from Hollywood in his monologue. The monologue started with Tennant and Twilight fame actor Michael Sheen in a comedy sketch inspired by their pandemic show Staged. In between the Zoom conversation, he is reminded of his promise to dog-sit Sheen’s puppy Bark Ruffalo- which happens to be on the very day he is hosting the BAFTA ceremony. So he is left with no choice along with dog sitting and hosting the show simultaneously.

As the monologue further unfolds, David Tennant ropes in actors like Tom Hiddleston, Judi Dench, and Stanley Tucci with respect to dog sitting. According to a video from the prestigious award show, with reference to Jo Koy’s much-criticized jokes about Taylor Swift during the Golden Globes 2024, David Tennant said-

“Don’t diss Tay Tay, I think is the lesson to be learned. I live in a house of Taylor Swift fans, so I know better.”

While announcing the first presenter of the award ceremony Andy Serkis, David Tennant said-

“You’ve already seen him once before, tonight. It’s the real Bark Ruffalo — it’s Andy Serkis.”

To which Serkis replied-

“Playing Bark Ruffalo was, for me, a career highlight. Many of you already will know him from the Dogfather trilogy, less so for his powerful performances in Bone of Interest and Paw Things. But more importantly, fearlessly, he took on the studios when they tried to scan him and use his likeness and his voice in perpetuity for a one-off doggy treat.”

The prestigious award ceremony took place at the Royal Festival Hall in London. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer was a clear leader with respect to nominations and awards leaving behind Emma Stone’s Poor Things and Martin Scorsese’s Killers Of The Flower Moon in the race.

He further added-

“That doesn’t mean I know that I ever will. But I suppose until I can’t run down a corridor it’s always a possibility. But I promise to have no plans.”
