Denis Villeneuve and Christopher Nolan are two Hollywood megaminds who have nothing but immense respect for each other’s work. Denis Villeneuve blew everyone away with his sci-fi adaptation of Dune, which is now being seen as a modern-day classic. Christopher Nolan, on the other hand, is in a class of his own, churning out one masterpiece after another, the most recent of them being Oppenheimer, which is a strong contender at the Oscars this year.

These two men often shower each other with nothing but praise. Denis Villeneuve was particularly blown away by one great work of Nolan for which he heaped praise on him at an event.

What Exactly Did Denis Villeneuve Say About Christopher Nolan?

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet may not have been for everyone but it definitely had a lasting effect on Denis Villeneuve. In the screening, he can be seen saying (via. Raiders of the Lost Podcast on X),

In another interview with The Playlist, Villeneuve shared a similar opinion about Christopher Nolan after watching his movie Tenet. Not only did he call the movie “an incredible cinematic achievement,” but he also said he found Nolan the “best filmmakers working in the world today.” Check out the full comment below.

“I was blown away by ‘Tenet,’ I think it’s a masterpiece … I think it’s a movie that’s an incredible cinematic achievement. I think that it’s a very complex movie, I had so much fun, I saw it several times and each time it was a blast and I think the level of mastery of Christopher Nolan is unmatched … He is by far one of the best filmmakers working in the world today because people don’t realize the eye-level of his cinematic mastery, it’s crazy.”

Even though Tenet bagged mixed reviews, Villeneuve gave it his adoration and approval. Soon enough, Nolan proved himself as the master craftsman he is with Oppenheimer, which has the award circuit raining accolades on it.

Denis Villeneuve Would Only Make Three Dune Movies Despite There Being Six Novels

Denis Villeneuve is working on the third Dune film, which is Dune: Messiah. Despite the Dune films being iconic masterpieces of recent times, Villeneuve feels like three Dune movies are his limit. He told Time that, despite there being six books, he would only work on three films.

“Dune Messiah should be the last Dune movie for me. I was trying to be, as a filmmaker, as invisible as possible. I tried my best to keep the poetry of the book, the atmosphere, the colors, the smell, everything that I felt when I read the book. I tried.”

He then said that after the third movie, he would wash his hands off the franchise due to his dislike of the Hollywood industry being overly guided by money.

Dune can be rented on Amazon Prime Video.
