Despite Her Embarrassing Joker 2 Failure, Lady Gaga is Still Earning Praise from an Iconic World Leader
- Lady Gaga has become the target for backlash for the mess that happens to be Joker 2.
- Although fans disapprove of the movie, the French President is quite happy with Gaga's performance.
- President Macron expressed his thoughts on his wife's cameo in Emily in Paris.
Lady Gaga has been making headlines for months now, thanks to her starring role as Harley ‘Lee’ Quinn in Joker 2. What was excitement at first turned into disappointment when the movie was released. There were numerous aspects of the film that the audience did not seem to like.
Gaga’s performance isn’t directly responsible for the backlash the movie is receiving. However, at the moment, fans are enraged at everyone involved for ruining the sequel to an Oscar-winning movie like Joker. That said, the Poker Face singer has found a fan in the most unexpected person, and this happens to be the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
French President Emmanuel Macron is All Praise for Lady Gaga
Joker 2 is not the first movie in which Lady Gaga appears. She has previously proved her acting skills in films like House of Gucci and A Star is Born. Critics and audiences alike praised her performance in the latter of these. In fact, she even received an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of a young singer named Ally, who is discovered by Bradley Cooper’s alcoholic singer-songwriter, Jackson Maine.
Gaga’s casting as Lee opposite Joaquin Phoenix‘s Arthur Fleck/Joker was initially not met with any resistance. People believed that she would deliver a great performance based on her streak. However, things started going downhill as fans got to learn more about the movie, which is a little too musical for a supervillain flick. After the movie was out, the hate train was ready for everyone to jump in, and somehow, the Shallow singer also became a target.
This, however, has not deterred the French President, Emmanuel Macron, who seems to be quite happy with her performance. In a recent interview with Variety, he said:
It was very impressive and very generous! I know she worked a lot. She decided to sing Zizi Jeanmaire and be part of this French culture. And she took a lot of risks, and she did great. I’m extremely grateful to her. And I told her, for us, it meant a lot.
If a world leader insists that Gaga did well, there is not a lot that can be said. This, however, does not change the fact that the movie is still losing millions at the box office and the fans are still very much displeased with how it went down.
President Emmanuel Macron on How He Felt About His Wife’s Cameo in Emily in Paris
After asking President Macron whether or not Netflix could face competition from a European rival, the interviewer followed up with a question about his wife Brigitte Macron’s cameo in the seventh episode of Emily in Paris Season 4. He said:
I was super proud, and she was very happy to do it. It’s just a few minutes, but I think it was a very good moment for her. I think it’s good for the image of France. “Emily in Paris” is super positive in terms of attractiveness for the country. For my own business, it’s a very good initiative.
The First Lady of France is mentioned in the fourth episode of the first season of the show, but did not appear in it at the time. When asked if he was asked to do a cameo, President Macron joked that he was not as attractive as his wife. He also hopes that Emily stays in Paris instead of moving to Rome.
