“Did she not read the script?”: Dakota Johnson’s Alarming Move After Awful Reactions to Madame Web’s Trailer
As Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web is almost here, the actress’ talent agency shift soon after the release of her film’s first trailer has given a skeptical look in the entertainment industry.
It seems like the acclaimed actress isn’t satisfied after signing Madame Web, as her alarming move from talent agency WME to CAA hints at her discontentment. However, since the exact reason for her replacing the agency hasn’t been revealed, Madame Web‘s baffling trailer could have contributed to her startling deviation.
Dakota Johnson Replaces Talent Agency Soon After Madame Web‘s First Trailer
We hope that Dakota Johnson might not have believed that she and Sydney Sweeney were joining a completely interconnected superhero world through Madame Web, as Variety revealed that Sony has a strategic plan to focus on standalone superhero films rather than crafting interconnected narratives like Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Johnson’s immediate move from WME to CAA raised eyebrows and gave roots to speculation that the Fifty Shades star isn’t happy with the makers.

Soon after the first trailer of Madame Web was out, Johnson took no time in moving her talent agency. One major concern could be the reaction to the film’s trailer and fans questioning if Dakota Johnson missed reading the script.

Her SNL monologue made it clear she was embarrassed to be in it

It looked like they all thought they were gonna be part of the MCU

I think she knows the kind of reaction #MadameWeb is about to garner.

My guess is she trusted her agent when he said it's a Marvel movie that it was MCU. Got stuck in this crap and has been waiting on the NDA date of the movie to fire them.

Another factor that intensified the speculation about Dakota Johnson being unhappy with her movie is her recent SNL monologue, in which the actress refers to Madame Web as “like if AI generated your boyfriend’s perfect movie.” The trailer drew criticism after a questionable line “He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders right before she died” couldn’t clearly understand Johnson’s film after which it became a target of making fun and creating memes on it.
This might have led Dakota Johnson to abandon the agents who convinced her to join the Marvel Comics adaptation. And now that the film is almost here, it would be intriguing to note how the Persuasion star will handle marketing campaigns for Madame Web.
Dakota Johnson Revealed Facing Challenges While Filming Madame Web
Since Johnson is best known for her role in the Fifty Shades films, Madame Web marks her beginning in the superhero genre after the actress majorly worked in drama and comedy projects.

The Cha Cha Real Smooth star calls some of the film’s aspects “absolutely psychotic” while sharing her filming experience. Dakota Johnson told Entertainment Weekly that:
“I’ve never really done a movie where you are on a blue screen, and fake explosions are going off, and someone’s going, ‘Explosion!’ and you act like there’s an explosion.”
While explaining that it was her first time experiencing a blue screen and scenes being shot, Johnson added:
“That to me was absolutely psychotic. I was like, ‘I don’t know if this is going to be good at all! I hope that I did an OK job!”
Despite being uncertain about her titular role in Madame Web, Dakota Johnson mentioned trusting the process and filming the scenes. The upcoming movie will focus on Johnson’s Cassandra Webb, a clairvoyant leading three teenage girls exploring their supernatural abilities.
Madame Web comes out on February 14, 2024.
