Featuring former president Donald Trump as a guest on Joe Rogan Experience is an important milestone in the podcast’s history, as it’s Trump’s first time on the podcast. But this episode did not come without controversy.

The political landscape has changed a lot since Trump’s previous run for president. As Trump has distanced himself from the traditional methods of media communications, podcasts, and YouTube channels have become handy for him to reach voters. This strategy shift was seen in his recent nearly three-hour interview with Joe Rogan.

The particular podcast covered everything from Donald Trump’s policy and goals to his alliance with Kennedy, who recently endorsed him. The former president was asked if he was committed to Kennedy’s place in the administration, and he replied, “I completely am.” But Trump also stated that they differ on environmental issues because of his support for oil and gas.

However, some questions arose when the episode became temporarily unavailable on YouTube. Since Trump has been infamous for getting banned from social media platforms, it caused speculations online that YouTube took down the episode to censor Trump’s comments.

However, Rogan immediately clarified that the real reason was a glitch, as they initially planned to release the episode both on Spotify and YouTube at the same time.

A similar thing happened earlier as well, when netizens speculated YouTube took down Rogan’s Tucker Carlson podcast to censor it. However, Rogan later confirmed that it was supposed to get released at 12 pm instead of 12 am.

The Rogan-Trump interview took place days before the November 5 election day. According to Edison Research, Rogan’s listeners could be very useful for a candidate since his listeners consist of Democrats, Republicans, and independents, despite being 80% male.

Why Joe Rogan Didn’t Want Donald Trump in His Podcast?

Interestingly, this historic interview wasn’t in Rogan’s plans for years. Rogan, who describes himself as “a bleeding heart liberal” according to Variety, initially had reservations regarding inviting Trump on his podcast. His political stand has often been rather unclear, as he supports both conservative and liberal measures.

Rogan supported many conservative views, like the Second Amendment and law enforcement. However, he has maintained a distance from the Republican Party. He told Variety,

I’m so far away from being a Republican. Just because I believe in the Second Amendment and just because I support the military and just ’cause I support police [doesn’t mean I’m a Republican].

Previous discussions about a podcast with Trump reveal a more complex perspective of Rogan’s views about him. Speaking with Lex Fridman, Rogan shared his views about Trump.

He’s such a polarizing figure that so many people felt like they could abandon their own ethics and morals and principles just to attack him and anybody who supports him because he is an existential threat to democracy itself.

Rogan had also been quite definitive in his position not to have Trump on his show. He said,

By the way, I am not a Trump supporter, in any way, shape or form. I have had the opportunity to have him on my show, more than once, and I have said no every time. I don’t want to help him, I’m not interested in helping him.

From declining to host Trump to doing a 3-hour-long interview with him, it looks like Rogan has changed his views. Perhaps the ongoing political happenings and Trump’s evolution might have compelled the celebrity host to bring in the former president.
