- Jonathan Bailey has spent almost three decades of his life in the acting business.
- He filmed Wicked, Bridgerton and Fellow Travelers within the span of a month with no breaks.
- A crew member of Bridgerton took to X to confirm that Bailey had actually done all that like a true professional.
Jonathan Bailey began acting when he was seven and at thirty-six, his acting chops are as good as it gets. Unsurprisingly, his acting chops are not the only good thing about him as he is also incredibly charming and has a great work ethic. The last of these was put to the test when he was required to tackle three major projects at the same time.
Bailey rose through the ranks when he landed the role of Anthony Bridgerton in the Netflix historical romance drama Bridgerton. He first played the role in the second season of the show and reprised the character for the third and fourth seasons.
He filmed a new season of the show along with the period romance series Fellow Travelers and the fantasy film, Wicked at the same time, and garnered praise from one of his colleagues for his work ethic.
Jonathan Bailey Recounted How He Shot Three Projects at the Same Time
Born and raised in England, Jonathan Bailey secured a talent agent when he was 15 and decided not to attend drama school. He performed in a lot of stage plays before he began earning attention for his TV performances. The first TV role that earned him popularity was in the hit ITV crime-drama, Broadchurch.
His performance in the Stephen Sondheim musical, Company earned him a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in 2019. The following year, his fame saw new heights after he joined the cast of Bridgerton as the eldest son of the family
In 2023, he played the lead role of Tim Laughlin in the hit Showtime series Fellow Travelers, alongside Matt Bomer. He won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Supporting Actor and also earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for the role. These days, he is making headlines lately for his portrayal of Fiyero in Wicked.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bailey confirmed that he was doing Fellow Travelers, Bridgerton, and Wicked simultaneously. He said:
I think it was 32 days in a row where I didn’t have one day off. And I flew back and forth four times. I’d go from Hawk’s house in the ‘60s at the cabin, go straight to the airport, sleep on the plane, go straight to a regency ball, sleep there, then go straight to Wicked to be learning choreography.
[..] There’s nothing quite like the feeling of trying to work out the priorities of whether you have to learn the choreography today, or work on your American accent, or pelt your hair ready for another Bridgerton snog.
He further said that he joined the filming of the fantasy film quite late and that producer Marc Platt helped him make it work. However, he also clarified that he would not want to do this sort of thing again any time soon.
Bridgerton Crew-member Is All Praise About Jonathan Bailey’s Work Ethic
Not many actors can pull off the sort of thing that Bailey did. Over a month of non-stop work and travel can undoubtedly affect a person’s mental health, but the Crashed actor did not let it show in his behavior. A crew member from Bridgerton confirmed as much by posting on X.
Bailey is currently busy with the press tour of Wicked and it is working wonders in raising his public profile.
That said, his next film is Jurassic World Rebirth, and his work ethic is proof enough that he should be getting more big-budget, mainstream roles in Hollywood.
