The story follows a diverse cast of scientists in the United Kingdom and China who come into contact with E.T., leading to various threats and humanity-wide changes. 3 Body Problem is David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ first project after their stint as Game of Thrones‘ show runners. The two of them along with Woo worked hard to modify the story a little to include foreign characters and locations. Christian Bale’s The Flowers of War director Zhang Yimou to adapt 3 Body- Problem for a feature

According to reports by Deadline, China’s most revered filmmaker, Zhang Yimo, known for directing The Flowers of War starring Christian Bale, will be directing the movie adaptation of 3 Body Problem. CEO of China’s Enlight Media, Wang Changtian, announced at the Shanghai International Film Festival (via Variety),

We hope that director Zhang Yimou can grasp the essence of the Three Body Problem novel, make some breakthroughs and innovations, and gain something in the international market.

The Chinese filmmaker is one of the exceptional filmmaker in the industry who with his recurrent themes depicting the resilience of Chinese people in the face of hardship and adversity in the movies managed to impress the audience and the critics over the years. Yimou’s The Flowers of War was based on a novella by Geling Yan, 13 Flowers of Nanjig, and is set in Nanji, China, during the 1937 massacre.

Despite receiving mixed reviews upon its release, the movie was picked for an 84th Academy Award entry for Best Foreign Language Movie; unfortunately, it did not make it to the list. The audience and critics at the time mentioned that the director’s stylistic flair is in full bloom, but the treatment of a historical genocide does a disservice to the horrifying events’ inherent drama. Back in 2011, Bale defended the movie, as he shared with the BBC

It’s far more a movie about human beings and the nature of human beings’ responses to the crisis.

The actor said that the movie was a historical piece, and anyone describing it as propaganda was not looking at it closely. Fans are now looking forward to Zhang Yimou’s movie.

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss talk about 3 Body Problem

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ season one of 3 Body Problem received positive responses from the audience and the critics, and they will be returning for season 2. David Benioff, and D.B. Weiss, spoke to Collider ahead of the season one premiere and expressed their hope to turn the novel series into a 3–4 season show. They said at the time,

There are three books. The first season roughly follows the arc of the first book, and the second season will probably roughly follow the second book. The third book is massive. It’s twice as long. I think, as with the other two books, there’s only one season, maybe two.

Benioff continued that they would like to have at least three seasons to tell the audience the story, which has a beautiful ending. He added that all three of them thought that Liu Cixin’s book was maybe the best final image they had encountered in a sci-fi saga like this. He added that they are desperate to get to the end.

The show has been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3, and according to Netflix, they said that they have included a lot of what what they loved from the novels by Liu Cixin in Season 1. But majorly the reasons they wanted to make the show will be explored in Season 2. The creators added that they have always wanted to get to the final page of the third book, and it’s really thrilling for them that they will get to do that.
