Mia Goth’s Villain Could Return: MaXXXine Director Raises Hopes for a Sequel Film After X Trilogy Films Make a Whopping Profit
Maxine Minx returns to the screens as Ti West brings MaXXXine to theaters this July. Mia Goth plays both positive (Maxine) and negative (Pearl) characters in the trilogy. As the date approaches, director Ti West is giving hints about a sequel, even before MaXXXine. Both movies, X and Pearl, were released in the same year.
Ti West released both movies in the same year because he thought it would be fun to release them back-to-back for the fans. Despite the film’s low budget, the movie did well at the box office and was received on a good note by the critics.
How Ti West earned from both films with a low budget
According to New Zealand Film Commission, both films, X and Pearl, had a very low budget of $1 million. The prequel (Pearl) was shot using the same farmhouse and barn that were used for shooting the movie X. West wanted to retain the location they had built and thought that it would be fun to use it again. This was another reason behind releasing two films in the same year, as he stated to New York Times.

Early thoughts: Mia Goth is giving it with this performance. Ti West’s direction feels more confident remixing Golden age Hollywood than he even did low budget grind house with X. #Pearl

#19: X. Directed by Ti West. An attempt to film a low budget porno in the sticks leads to pile of corpses. This wears it’s influences on it’s sleeve – but managed to surprise and entertain through out. pic.twitter.com/40IWnovcvS

"Somewhere between art film and exploitation. A bizarre, lost, and lonely low-budget time capsule of Los Angeles with a final shot that needs to be seen to be believed."

Despite having a low budget, the films did exceptionally well, both in the eyes of critics and at the box office. According to The Numbers, X earned $15 million at the box office, whereas Pearl earned $10 million worldwide.
MaXXXine is the sequel to X, which will follow the story of Maxine Minx, who is an adult film star. She finally gets her big break but gets chased by a killer in the movie.
Ti West hints towards another sequel after MaXXXine
During an interview with Screen Rant Plus, Ti West was asked if he was going to carry on the franchise and will release another sequel after MaXXXine, just like he did with X and Pearl. To which he replied,
The thing is we released X, and no one knew and then we released Pearl, and no one really didn’t know. The fun part of making these movies is not having everything be known before you make them, whether it’s another in this or not I am just not going to tell you.
For real, does Ti West sleep? I feel like the next time I blink there's going to be another X sequel announced

This response made everybody laugh, but the current sequel itself speaks to the fact that West might not give up on the franchise easily.
MaXXXine will be released on July 5 in the USA.
