“Disgusting Matt Damon’s birthday party”: Emily Blunt Invited Tom Cruise to an NSFW Event Through Email After John Krasinski Changed the Plan
Edge of Tomorrow, a science fiction film directed by Doug Liman and based on the 2004 Japanese novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, starred British actress Emily Blunt and actor Tom Cruise.
Critics and viewers praised it, and it was revealed that Warner Bros. had spent around $100 million on advertising. While filming, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt grew close, and the actor ended up at a very unusual location when Blunt invited him to celebrate Matt Damon’s birthday party. Let’s find out where.
Emily Blunt took Tom Cruise to London’s S*x Club
Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise appeared in 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow and were reported to share a great rapport and, where Cruise is always very proper and poised, Blunt and her husband John Krasinski managed to loosen him up on Matt Damon’s birthday.
During one of her appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the actress shared,
“John, my husband, wanted to do something crazy for him (Damon). I don’t know if you’ve heard of this club called The Box. It’s kind of a burlesque sex club. There are weird things that go on and make you cringe. “Tom loves Matt, and Tom wanted to come.”
The actress further shared,
“I emailed him and was like, ‘Tom, change of plan. We’re now going to go to this club called The Box. Just wanted you to know, you may not be comfortable with this. It’s kind of like a s*x club’. He emailed back and went, ‘Jesus Christ! Well, just don’t let me walk out of there alone!’ which we didn’t.”
Blunt, before sharing the incident on Jimmy Kimmel Live, noted, “It was the disgusting Matt Damon’s birthday party. What a loser.”
Emily Blunt talks about the NSFW advice Tom Cruise gave her
The actress appeared on the SmartLess podcast and revealed the NSFW advice she received from her co-star Tom Cruise while they were working on Edge of Tomorrow. She said,
“We had to wear these enormous suits, which I think would’ve been great if we had CGI’d them, but we wanted to do it in a tactile way. When you hear the word ‘tactile,’ you think that it sounds nice and cozy. There was nothing cozy about those suits. It was like 85 pounds. It was so heavy. The first time I put it on I started to cry, and [Cruise] didn’t know what to do.”
Blunt continued that she told Cruise that she didn’t know how she was going to get through the shoot and was panicking about the shoot and then went on to reveal the one thing Cruise told her,
“He just stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he goes, ‘Come on, stop being such a p*ssy, OK?’ I did laugh, and then we got through it, but the training was intense.”
Emily Blunt addresses the sequel of Edge of Tomorrow
There haven’t been any updates on the sequel of the movie which was reported to be in the making back in 2016. Blunt said that maybe money is the reason why it’s delayed. The actress appeared on Howard Stern and said,
“We wanted to. Honestly, I think the movie’s too expensive. Yeah, I don’t know how we’re going to do it. I think that it’s hard to align everyone’s schedules. I would love it. Doug Liman would love it. Tom would love it. We’d all love to do it, but I think until we figure out what’s going on with the industry – honestly, I think we need to figure out what is the next road map for the kinds of films that people want to make.”
In her interview with EW, she praised the script of the sequel, stating, “That was an amazing script, but I just don’t know what the future holds for it.” She lastly added that she does not have a straight answer for the sequel anymore.
