In the race to be the best television series of today’s time, a show in the running amidst greats like Shogun and The Bear is Succession. Another one of HBO’s gems, Succession follows a family’s quest for power, plagued with internal conflicts and countless external threats.

The Roy family has everything they can possibly dream of, you name it, they have it. Yet, the siblings struggle to maintain their self-esteem and give rise to a tug of war that results in broken hearts and bruised egos.

The only female Roy sibling Siobhan Roy, played by Sarah Snook, must have had a tough time growing up in the shadow of her brothers. The looming quest to prove her worth wouldn’t have helped her much either. In the end, her personality is a mixed bag of qualities that rear their head in different situations. At one point, she is kind and caring, while another moment witnesses her wrath and rage.

Nevertheless, she manages to charm the audience and win their approval as many fans start rooting for her. Despite her confused choices and muddled thoughts, she emerges as a favorite character in Succession. In an interview with Hype, she shares an anecdote that establishes a bizarre connection of the show to Donald Trump’s 2016 election as President of the United States of America,

To be honest, I didn’t realize it was so close up against the American Presidential Election. We did the table read that same night. But one image that sticks in my mind is, after the table read and after the election results had come in, is of Jeremy Strong drifting off into the night. The mist had come down and there was this sodium glow from the street lamps, and he was drifting off into New York, wearing his coat… I thought: “Wow, the world has changed today.” Mine certainly had, from doing the table read for “Succession”. But the rest of the world changed as well.

She is talking about the first table read that happened in New York back in 2016. All the actors had come together to go through the script. After it ended, Jeremy Strong, who plays Kendall Roy on Succession, drifted off in his thoughts. The actress is hinting at how pivotal the election was for America and how things have progressed since then. Her life certainly took a turn for the better as she got such an incredible opportunity while we perhaps cannot say the same for the rest.

Sarah Snook is nothing like Shiv in Succession

Nicknamed Shiv, Snook’s character Siobhan in Succession is quite unique. She stands out for her quick-witted responses, her ability to think on her feet and that of switching between personas suit the situation. However, the real Sarah Snook is nothing like her Succession character. He revealed how she likes to unwind after the shoot,

Quite easy! I’ve got my Blundstone (boots), and my cap and my jacket – quite a different outfit, for starters. I find that does certainly help get me out of character. And I’m by no means as quick-witted as Jesse makes her, or any of the other characters, to be. I think Kieran’s the only person who can really compete in a real world circumstance.

Succession managed to snag various awards and high praise from critics and viewers alike. The fast-paced thrill of the story kept everyone engaged till the very end. Many fans did not want the show to get over, but like all good things, it had to end.

Succession is streaming on Max.
