During the world premiere of A Real Pain at the Eccles Theater on Saturday afternoon, Culkin joined the collaborators and after the film was honored with a standing ovation, the Movie 43 star knew it was the best chance for him to playfully talk about co-starring with Jesse Eisenberg. According to Vulture, he said:

“There was a pretty good rapport right away. But right after the first scene, he’d be like, ‘Cut,’ and start giving me notes. And my first thought is, like, b*tch, I got notes for you, too. I don’t want to be noted by an actor. Get out of here. F*ck you.”

During an interview with THR, the Resistance star revealed how he cast Kieran Culkin in his film. Usually, actors are cast after they succeed in their auditions, but Culkin’s casting in A Real Pain was completely different from this. The director said that:

“My sister read 20 pages of my script, and she said that there’s only one person in the world that could play this part. I said, ‘Who?’ And she said, ‘Kieran Culkin.’ She loves Succession, and I hadn’t seen it.”

Describing how his sister suggested to cast Kieran Culkin, he added:

“So, I looked it up, and it immediately became clear that he’s just perfect for this because he can bring a sense of humor, as well as an intensity, that makes this character so unknowable.”

After witnessing the work of the No Sudden Move star in his latest HBO series, and understanding the versatility of Kieran Culkin, Jesse Eisenberg as a director knew that no one would be able to portray cousin Benji better than Culkin.
