Despite being the sorcerer supreme, Doctor Strange’s superpowers couldn’t stop the former member of the masters of the mystic arts Mordo from his actions. However, he had reasons for ignoring Mordo’s actions in the universe.

Initially, Mordo is introduced as Doctor Strange’s ally, but after a significant time, he transforms into an interesting villain and even Strange chooses not to bother the potential adversary, as he believes that Baron Mordo is a necessity for him. Doctor Strange has incredible magical powers, but one thing he lacks is the ability to make tough decisions, which Mordo excels at.

Why Doctor Strange Never Stopped Mordo Following The Misguided Path

One thing that many fans might wonder is about Benedict Cumberbatch‘s Doctor Strange’s ignorance towards the acts of Baron Mordo. Despite entering as one of the sorcerer supreme and the Earth protector’s allies, the former sorcerer becomes Doctor Strange’s adversary and is expected to play a significant villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Strange had notable reasons for ignoring Mordo’s wrongdoings.

Dr. Stephen Strange perceived Mordo as a necessity because unlike him, Strange cannot make tough and cruel decisions when required. The primary protector of Earth believed that he would require the former magician’s skills to make tough decisions in some situations. Strange’s incapability to force harsh decisions didn’t allow him to go against Mordo, as his primary focus was to protect the Earth.

Doctor Strange requires the skill to maintain order and as a leader, he shouldn’t fear breaking rules. Mordo can force rule and make others sacrifice for good, whereas Doctor Stange would risk his own life to serve as a safeguard for the world. Despite being a foe, Mordo possesses incredible leadership qualities, and considering this, Strange might have accepted him as a valuable quality. In conclusion, Doctor Strange considered Mordo as a safeguard against threats posed by himself through dangerous magic.

Even though we witnessed a variant of Baron Mordo played by Chiwetel Ejiofor in Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, the fate of Earth-616’s Mordo was never revealed. The 2022 movie saw Ejiofor’s Mordo as a variant set in Earth-838, causing doubts about the one we witnessed in the first movie. However, in Multiverse of Madness, Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange mentions Mordo, who had dedicated his life to killing the sorcerer supreme.

Considering the 2016 movie Doctor Strange which introduced the former master of the mystic arts, Mordo must be on his quest to chase other sorcerers and snatch their powers. In an interview with Total Film (via The Direct), Ejiofor also mentioned that Mordo was successful in surviving Thanos’ snap in Avengers: Infinity War, and “was definitely engaged in that time.” Scarlett Witch nearly killed Mordo, but the scene was taken out of the movie, leaving a potential for the character to appear in the future projects of the MCU.
