Don’t Be Surprised With Sylvester Stallone’s Support For Donald Trump, He Spoke His Truth Years Ago
- Sylvester Stallone expressed his support for Donald Trump eight years ago.
- He has recently congratulated Trump on his win and even introduced him for a public event.
- The Expendables actor not only compared Trump to his character Rocky, but also likened him to George Washington.
Sylvester Stallone is one of the most influential Hollywood stars with worldwide popularity. The political opinion of someone as popular as him is doubtlessly important. However, he is not of the same opinion as most of his contemporaries who openly expressed their support for Democrat Kamala Harris for the U.S. Presidential election.
Instead, Stallone congratulated Donald Trump on his win in the election, and fans were rather surprised by this. However, it should not really come as a surprise because this is not the first time that the Rocky actor has expressed his support for Trump. In fact, he did so eight years ago when Trump won the election for the first time.
Sylvester Stallone has Always Been a Supporter of Donald Trump
Sylvester Stallone began his professional acting career as a stage actor in the 1960s. After years of struggle, his first credited screen role came in The Party at Kitty and Stud’s, a softcore adult film he had to do out of sheer desperation for work to get by. Following this, he appeared in small roles in several movies before making his breakthrough with 1976’s Rocky, which was not only a commercial hit but also brought him Oscar recognition.
Stallone has enjoyed a stellar career ever since and has even tried his hand at other aspects of filmmaking such as producing and directing besides screenwriting and acting. In 2016, in an interview with Variety, the Demolition Man actor admitted that he had briefly considered going into politics like his friend Arnold Schwarzenegger, but his wife brought him back to his senses.
In the same interview, he praised Republican Donald Trump ahead of the 2016 presidential election and went as far as comparing him to characters from Charles Dickens’ novels.
I love Donald Trump. He’s a great Dickensian character. You know what I mean? There are certain people like Arnold, Babe Ruth, that are bigger than life. But I don’t know how that translates to running the world.
The Hollywood veteran also supported John McCain’s 2008 presidential run so most people thought him to be a Republican. When he was asked about it by Variety, he said that he hoped that the best candidate would win. Trump won the election that year.
Sylvester Stallone Showed His Support for Donald Trump Once Again
On one hand, celebrities like Taylor Swift, Jennifer Lopez, Eminem, John Legend, and Bruce Springsteen supported Kamala Harris this year. On the other hand, some like Joe Rogan, Hulk Hogan, and Elon Musk came out as staunch supporters of Donald Trump. Sylvester Stallone has also turned out to be from the latter group.
During the America First Policy Institute’s gala held at the president-elect’s Mar-a-Lago estate, Stallone introduced Trump and did not hold back his praise at all (via X).
We’re in the presence of a really mythical character. I love mythology. This individual does not exist on this planet. Nobody in the world could have pulled off what he pulled off, so I’m in awe.
Earlier in his speech, he compared Trump to the fictional character Rocky, and he later went on to call the new President-elect “the second George Washington”. This has come as a shock to many of his fans because Stallone has never been this public about his support for Trump.
It’s not the first time a celebrity has caused a stir with their political opinion and certainly won’t be the last, but The Expendables actor has truly defied expectations this time around. This is especially since his pal, Schwarzenegger is a supporter of Harris.
