SUMMARY
  • Nicole Kidman does a lot of intimate scenes in her upcoming erotic thriller, Babygirl.
  • Doing that many intimate scenes in the movie made her become wary of getting intimate at all.
  • Kidman was grateful that she got to work with a female director on this movie.

Nicole Kidman has never been one to stick to one genre, and her love for trying new things all the time has resulted in her doing the extremely steamy movie, Babygirl. The trailer itself has fans chewing on their nails as they get a glimpse into what awaits them in the movie that is set to be released later this year.

Kidman is an endlessly versatile actress, but she is also a human. While this movie did not require her to do any deadly stunts, she had to do the same thing over and over again so many times that she began despising doing it altogether. This is quite concerning when it comes to her intimate life with her husband, country star Keith Urban.

Nicole Kidman has been known for her versatility since the early days of her career. From psychological thrillers (Dead Calm, The Others) and dramas (The Hours, Cold Mountain) to superhero movies (Aquaman, Batman Forever) and horror (The Killing of a Sacred Deer), there is hardly any genre that the Academy Award-winning actress has not done.

Recently, she has taken the bold route again and doing projects that are getting the audience all worked up. Hollywood has its fair share of raunchy movies and Babygirl is the newest entry in that list. While this is not the actress’ first rodeo when it comes to intimate scenes, it might have been the most challenging considering how big of a toll it took on her when it came to her intimate life.

In a recent interview, she opened up about how doing all those intimate scenes with co-stars Harris Dickinson, who plays her intern-turned-muse, and Antonio Banderas, who plays her husband, made things a little tough for her to deal with at one point (via The Sun).

There was an enormous amount of sharing and trust and then frustration. It’s like, ‘Don’t touch me’. There were times when we were shooting where I was like, ‘I don’t want to orgasm any more. Don’t come near me. I hate doing this. I don’t care if I am never touched again in my life! I’m over it. It was so present all the time for me that it was almost like a burnout.

Too much of anything is not good, whether it is action scenes or intimate ones. Considering that she feels this way about getting intimate now, it might turn out to be a struggle for her to go back to normal, even with her husband, Keith Urban. Hopefully, she will be able to work through it soon.

Babygirl explores the complexities of power dynamics and sexuality through a story in which Romy (Kidman), the married CEO of a company starts an affair with a much younger intern (Harris Dickinson) at the company while her husband (Antonio Banderas) remains in the dark.

The movie is directed by Dutch filmmaker and actress Halina Reijn. This proved to be a huge support system for Kidman who did not feel “exploited” by all the intimate scenes she had to do for the movie. In a press conference before the movie’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival, she emphasized on this (via PEOPLE).

That’s what made it so compelling, was being in the hands of Halina, because I knew she wasn’t gonna exploit me. I mean, however anyone interprets that, I didn’t feel exploited. I felt very much a part of it.

The Practical Magic actress also claimed that the cast and crew took care of each other and that they were gentle with each other. She might not have been feeling the best about her intimate life, but she certainly has no regrets about doing this film.

Babygirl will be out in theatres on December 25, 2024.
