“Don’t trust Sony, but…”: Only 3 Things Are Working in Kraven The Hunter’s Favor and One of Them is a $438 Million Sony Film
- Kraven the Hunter is looking at obstacles due to Sony's marred reputation.
- This film has three rather good things to its help and might just overcome the obstacles.
- Director J. C. Chandor has a request for fans and it seems they have not fallen on death ears.
Sony fumbling movies from the Spider-Man universe have made things tough for Kraven the Hunter. Considering that the Spider-Man universe is one of the most profitable ones, it is truly a little astonishing every time Sony ends up making a bad movie. Unsurprisingly, fans have become wary of the movies from the SSU over the years.
This reputation of the franchise is obviously going to hurt Kraven the Hunter‘s chances when it comes to critical as well as commercial reception. The film’s director has directly addressed his concerns about this. Luckily, despite Sony’s bad reputation, the film has three things actually working in its favor which might help it in becoming the franchise’s saving grace.
Kraven the Hunter Has These 3 Things Working in Its Favor Ahead of Release
Kraven the Hunter is based on the eponymous Marvel comic character who was introduced as an adversary of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the comic book, The Amazing Spider-Man #15. The supervillain character was created by the legendary Stan Lee and the artist, Steve Ditko.
Sony contemplated introducing the character on the big screen for years, and eventually, ended up with the decision to make a standalone movie based on him. The only obstacle standing in its way is infamously the franchise’s own shortcomings with movies like Morbius and Madame Web, which were colossal disappointments.
Even so, three things might actually be helping the film’s chances. To begin with, it has an R-rating just like Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine which requires no telling just how good it was. The Marvel flick’s success even with an R-rating assures fans that superhero movies with this rating can also be good.
Secondly, Venom 3, the most recent movie from the SSU has been a critical and commercial success with a box office collection of over $438 million (via Box Office Mojo). This is also bound to reinstate fans’ belief in this franchise. Lastly, Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s phenomenal acting skills and undeniably charming looks will also help the film’s case. His iconic filmography and those sultry looks will definitely draw the audience to the cinema.
Kraven the Hunter Director Has Requested Fans to Give the Movie a Chance
Kraven the Hunter has been directed by J. C. Chandor from a screenplay by Richard Wenk. The creatives behind the movie are not unaware of Sony’s marred reputation so it seems Chandor found it best to address it openly. In a conversation with ComicBook, he pointed out that the SSU has received mixed reviews over time.
Some of the fans out there, a lot of the fans, were upset with certain decisions and certain outcomes [of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe]. Then with other films, they’ve gone on to be tremendous successes. So there’s been a mixed success rate. People have got to give us a chance and come out and support this film, and literally try to wash away some of the other stuff that’s happened. Give our film a chance.
Fans have heard his request and expressed their own feelings about SSU’s mixed reception and of course, the director’s request.

It's Rated R, giving you a chance

Judging by these reactions, fans might give Chandor and his creation a chance. However, whether or not the movie will be able to restore SSU’s reputation remains to be seen, but here is to hoping that this one is up to the expectations or at least good enough for the viewers to leave the theaters satisfied.
Kraven the Hunter will be in the theaters on December 13, 2024.
