C, XOXO upon its release, despite featuring big artists went on to receive mixed and average reviews from the critics. In a nutshell, critics mentioned that her album tells the story of her returning to Miami and gaining perspective on broken love and aimless youth. But what the fans were interested in hearing about was her collaboration with Drake, especially after the infamous Kendrick Lamar-Drake feud.

Camila Cabello reveals how collaboration with Drake happened for C, XOXO

In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, while promoting her recently released album C, XOXO was asked about her collaboration with Drake, who is featured on two songs of her album, Hot Uptown, and Uuugly. To which she said,

I feel like, at least from what I know of myself, I feel like we’re musically aligned in a lot of ways. I think we have a lot of the same taste, and lyrically as well. I actually slid into his DMs too, and I was like, ‘I’ve been listening to you so much for this album,’ a lot of the wordplay and my aspiration for bars.

Furthermore, Cabello noted that she DMed him, and played him her album, following which she sent him the idea for a song; Hot Uptown, and revealed that they chopped it to make it feel like a duet. Cabello recalled that the Canadian rapper, who had been following her since 2018, reworked on his parts again and gave her the outro, which was the UUUgly part. The singer continued,

It’s a twofer because he didn’t really need to give me an outro, but for me, it’s like I don’t want to hear a song like Hot Uptown and then have it go into this one-minute thing where he is talking his s**t, so we decided to just make it another song.

In conversation with Nylon Magazine, the artist says that C, XOXO is where she is going to depart from the thing that everybody knows and likes about her. This is because she wants to try things, experiment, and evolve as an artist.

Camila Cabello defends Drake in his feud with Kendrick Lamar

Not only did Cabello collaborate with the rapper on her latest album, but she also weighed in on his feud with fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar.  In her interview with The Times, she lightly addressed the beef between the two rappers and said, while deciding to side with Drake,

Drake is such a delight. It’s so frustrating to see people talk about someone you known in a way that is negative. You’re like, ‘Dang, if only you guys could just have dinner or something.’

The Drake-Kendrick Lamar feud took a turn recently, where Lamar not only opened his set with Drake’s diss track Euphoria but also rolled out a new verse for it. Lamar said, ‘Give me Tupac’s ring back, and I might give you a little respect.

At the concert titled The Pop Out: Ken and Friends, according to NME, Lamar performed the diss track Not Like Us about five times. The song’s release gave Kendrick Lamar his fourth Hot 100, following his feature on Future and Metro Boomin’s Like That, his 2017’s Humble, and in 2015 as a part of Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood track.

NME also reported that Lamar’s Not Like Us checks all the boxes that the Grammys’ team is looking for, which means that it is likely up for a Grammy nomination.

Camila Cabello’s C, XOXO can be streamed on Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music.
