Box office predictions can often offer an accurate insight into how certain movies will perform. They take into consideration the budget of the movie, the production house behind the film and the target audience that would be pulled into the theatres to watch it. On top of that, a few other factors like the star cast and filmmaker behind the scenes can also change the winds for a movie. After The Marvels debacle, filmmakers and production houses are walking on eggshells and trying to do better marketing and deliver worthy movies.

Dune 2 Box Office Projection

Actor Timothée Chalamet
Timothée Chalamet in Dune

After a smashing reception of Dune, we expect nothing but the best out of the eagerly awaited sequel. Bringing back the original cast including Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson, Dune: Part Two will also feature Florence Pugh and Austin Butler as part of the central cast. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the movie will continue the story of the first instalment with Paul seeking revenge on the wrongdoers who destroyed his family. In a tug-of-war between love and duty, he will have to make the ultimate choice that will guide his future actions.

Releasing on March 1, 2024, in the United States of America, Dune 2 is projected to collect $50m-$75m in the opening weekend itself, according to Box Office Pro. After hitting the theatres in 2021 when the world was reeling with a deadly pandemic, Dune managed to collect a whopping $402 million at the worldwide box office. If those numbers are any indication, the sequel of Dune is bound to reach $125m-$195m in terms of overall domestic collections.

The expectations are soaring through the skies given Chalamet and Zendaya’s popularity across the globe. They are two of the finest actors of this generation in Hollywood. Simultaneously, the movie is a big-budget undertaking that demands attention and seeps through other areas of our lives with the help of clever marketing such as the popcorn tub inspired by the movie. At the same time, Dune appears to be a franchise that caters to a specific set of science-fiction and fantasy lovers, so we can only wait to see how the movie performs after its release.

How Will Madame Web Perform at the Box Office?

Dakota Johnson
Dakota Johnson in Madame Web

Marvel movies are not selling quite as hotcakes in recent times. The studios have become weary of releasing content just for the heck of it and are putting thought into pulling audiences and re-consolidating their position at the box office. Sony Pictures is learning from Marvel’s mistakes and trying to release movies that will get the viewers talking. Sony owns the rights to a few characters from the iconic Marvel comics including Venom and Kraven The Hunter, both of which will have a movie released soon.

Helmed by Sony Pictures, Madame Web is the next movie to hit the theatres on the Valentine’s Day weekend. Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney headline the movie which follows Cassandra Webb’s story who is clairvoyant and learns how to manage her newfound powers. The movie has created significant buzz with Johnson’s teasers to invite viewers and Sweeney’s Anyone But You being a sleeper hit. The actresses are trending on social media, so there is a chance we will see an uptick in box office collections compared to previous projections.

Jared Leto as Morbius
Morbius failed at the box office

However, the previous Sony movie, Morbius, bombed at the box office, making the chances of Madame Web being successful pretty slim. The popularity of the movie might have increased had people been excited about the comic book characters previously. The expectations out of Madame Web are also on the low where people going to watch the movie will be fans of Johnson or Sweeney. The lowest to highest possible range of box office collections for the movie remains at $56m-$101m domestically.
