Talking about interesting characters in the series, one can’t escape without mentioning Desmond Hart, a soldier with mysterious powers that are hard to explain. Along with that, he might have a connection with one of the biggest legends of the Dune universe.

The third episode of Dune: Prophecy has a flashback theme, which shows the development of the Harkonnen sisters’ motives. In this context, the role of Desmond Hart, played by Travis Fimmel, and his rebellion against their powers also became an important point in the episode.

After Emily Watson‘s character’s, Valya Harkonnen, failed attempt to use the Voice on him, viewers are left wondering how a soldier can stand up to one of the Bene Gesserit’s most powerful abilities. The episode begins right after an encounter with Hart, and Valya is still in disbelief that the Voice didn’t affect him.

Now that they have been banned from the palace, Valya tells Sister Theodosia, “This is not the first time an adversary has sought to remove me.” This statement might be a reference to Vorian Atreides.

Vorian Atreides was a major character in the Battle of Corrin, where humanity finally defeated Thinking Machines. But his actions during the battle and his betrayal of his friend-turned-enemy, Abulurd Harkonnen, meant that his name brought honor and shame.

The episode name-drops Vorian Atreides multiple times, and it almost seems like the makers are trying to tease the viewers with a future revelation of the character. And it could be possible that Vorian is revealed with a big twist.

Since Desmond Hart is an original creation of the show and has no mention in the novels, it might be possible that he is actually Vorian and was hiding in plain sight with a new identity.

If Hart is indeed Vorian, his reemergence in Dune: Prophecy could fuel these tensions in a manner that could redefine the future of the series. His resistance against the Bene Gesserit might also reveal what made him a hero of the Butlerian Jihad.

How Vorian Atreides’ Past Shapes Dune: Prophecy

Beyond his role in the Harkonnen-Atreides feud, Vorian’s past decisions continue to drop hints through the events of Dune: Prophecy. The Bene Gesserit Sisters, notably Valya Harkonnen, are in one way or another, affected by his legacy.

Her personal hatred of the Atreides is a result of Vorian’s actions, who was also responsible for the death of her brother, Griffin. The flashbacks of episode 3 describe how these moments defined Valya’s journey to becoming the Mother Superior of the Bene Gesserit.

But they also bring about the next dimension of the show which revolves around Desmond Hart. Of course, if Hart really is Vorian, then his return could stir the pot of Valya’s family drama, which could only complicate the already dark political situation within the show.

Vorian’s father, Titan Agamemnon, was also a cymek, and he gave his son an anti-aging treatment during his younger days, which might also explain how he is actively alive after all these years. Moreover, fans have already been speculating Hart to be a Ghoul or even a cyborg.

Hart being Vorian Atreides could be more than a simple fan theory. Regardless, his character embodies loyalty, betrayal, and legacy, some things that have always defined the story of Dune.
