Dwayne Johnson Giving Over $40,000 to ‘Red One’ Crew is Not What You’d Expect After Explosive Claims About His On-set Habits
- Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans star together in the Christmas action-adventure, Red One.
- Evans revealed how Johnson casually gave away $40,000 for a thing they would do at the end of every week.
- In a recent interview, Johnson debunked the claims made about him in a report from months ago.
Over the years, Dwayne Johnson has earned quite a few labels. One of the many labels is generous, and his co-star, Chris Evans weighed in on the claim recently. Although they have both been in the entertainment industry for decades now, the upcoming movie, Red One, marks their first collaboration.
Johnson and Evans are two of the most well-known actors in Hollywood so one can imagine the kind of star power they would bring to the screens. That said, no one could have possibly imagined just how generous the Jumanji: The Next Level star would be to his crew after some rather bizarre claims about his on-set habits.
Chris Evans Revealed How Generous Dwayne Johnson Was to the Red One Crew
While promoting their film, Red One, in an interview for PEOPLE, Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson interviewed each other. At one point, the Avengers star mentioned that the professional wrestler put up a whopping $40,000 in a raffle pot for their crew members to boost morale on set.
Evans said that during the film’s shooting, Johnson used to do a thing where at the end of every week, they would put up a little bucket, and everyone would put in $5 or $10. Crew members would get raffle tickets, and it was called ‘Five-Dollar Friday’. One crew member would pull out a name and the person whose name is on the ticket wins the money.
He further went on to say that actors would splash the pots as their way of showing gratitude to the crew, but Johnson would do it in ways that no one could even imagine.
[Johnson] was like, ‘Oh, well what’s the pot? Five grand? How about it’s called 20,’ So he picks a name and someone’s going crazy and he’s like, ‘Should we do it again? How about 40?’ … I’m not exaggerating — the number got up big, and he pulled out five or six names. The crew is just so excited to work for DJ, and he works just as hard back for them.
The Baywatch star told Evans that he loved doing it for the crew because they were very deserving of it. He said that the crew is the backbone of the industry so actors would want to take care of them.
Dwayne Johnson Addressed the Claims About His On-set Behavior
The film stars Evans and Johnson as bounty hunter Jack O’Malley and an E.L.F. Task Force Commander respectively. The two join forces to find Santa Claus, who has been abducted just in time for Christmas. Earlier this year, the film attracted some attention when a report from The Wrap claimed that the Fast Five star was rather tardy.
From reaching the set six to seven hours late to peeing in a water bottle, the claims paint an image of the actor that was quite the opposite of the world’s perception of him as a kind and hard-working person. Recently, in an interview with GQ, he debunked the rumors claiming that all of it was “bullsh*t”.
However, he admitted that he peed in a bottle and that he was sometimes late, too, but not to the extent that The Wrap‘s report claimed. Director Jake Kasdan and co-star Evans defended the actor against all those claims in the GQ story. That said, the defamatory report also claimed that the film’s budget had ballooned by $50 million because of Johnson’s tardiness. Making a profit at the box office will certainly be a challenge for the movie.
