Dwayne Johnson’s Hobbs Missing From Fast & Furious 9 Trailer. Is He Gone For Good?
The Fast and Furious 9 trailer is already making waves online and fans have a lot of questions. One of the major questions is regarding Han’s appearance while the other is regarding the disappearance of a character. To be more precise, people are wondering why Dwayne Johnson isn’t in Fast & Furious 9. Check out the trailer below:
The Journey Of Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs In The Fast And Furious Franchise
The star joined the Fast franchise in 2011’s Fast Five as DSS Agent Luke Hobbs. He was brought in to hunt down Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew. He returned in Fast & Furious 6 to pursue the dangerous Owen Shaw (Luke Evans). After pardoning the Toretto crew in 6, Hobbs helped thwart a plot by Owen’s vengeful brother Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) in Furious 7. After that he was with Toretto’s crew again in The Fate of the Furious to help bring cyberterrorist Cipher (Charlize Theron) to justice. Johnson’s Luke Hobbs even got his own spinoff movie as he and Shaw were forced to partner up to bring down super soldier Brixton Lore (Idris Elba) in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.

Will Dwayne Johnson Appear In A Fast And Furious Movie Again?
Johnson in a 2019 MTV interview explained why he won’t be returning to the franchise in F9. He said that it was because of a scheduling conflict with Hobbs & Shaw. But Johnson did hint that he could rejoin the franchise in F10. Johnson said:
“Who knows, with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know. Because look, at the end of the day, the truth is there’s unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It’s unfinished.”
That’s not all, Johnson later teased a future Hobbs and Toretto team up in a video where he thanked Vin Diesel, who was a producer on the Fast franchise for supporting the Hobbs & Shaw spinoff. In the Instagram selfie video Johnson said:
“As you know, and what a wild ride this is, and what a wild ride this has been, ten years ago when you and I spoke and you invited me into the Fast & Furious family. I’m grateful for that invite, and as you know, my goal was always – all these years – to come into the Fast & Furious world and help elevate the franchise in any way that I possibly could. If I could do that, then I’ve done my job. And now here we are ten years later, this massively successful build-out and expansion. We did it the right way, we did it the smart way, and again brother, I appreciate your support.”
But it was Johnson’s last line in the video which riled up the fans. He said:
“And of course, all roads lead to one thing… I’ll be seeing you soon, Toretto”.
Will that clash actually happen? That remains to be seen.
F9 opens May 22. F10 follows April 2, 2021.
