Ellie Goulding And Ed Sheeran’s Complicated Past Relationship
In 2014, rumors swirled that singer Ed Sheeran‘s hit song Don’t was about his ex-girlfriend, Ellie Goulding, who allegedly cheated on him with former One Direction band member Niall Horan. The Galway singer told Entertainment Weekly, “I never let it slip. What happened was that one of the newspapers in England just printed that it was confirmed when it never was,” he said in the context of the song he made for Goulding. He adds,
“We got in touch, and they took the story down. But obviously the damage had already been done by that point because every other newspaper picked it up. So I never actually confirmed it. ”
The cheating rumors date back nearly a decade, when Goulding was spotted holding hands with Ed Sheeran while sitting next to each other in the audience at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Before this, the singer was caught packing on the PDA with Niall Horan during an outing to England’s V Festival. One user was quick to take a dig at the singer by recalling the long-running, old controversy between Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, and Niall Horan. The social media user wrote,
“Can’t believe you cheated on Ed with Niall, but you slay for real.”
And as the comment made waves on the internet, the singer decided to hit back at the user. Goulding responded,
“False!” But also slay.”
Both the ex-couples are now married to their respective partners. Ellie Goulding is married to Caspar Jopline, while Ed Sheeran is married to his high school friend, Cherry Seaborn.
