- Emilia Clarke set to star in Peacock's spy thriller 'PONIES'.
- Game of Thrones actress currently filming for Amazon Prime Video's upcoming 'Criminal'.
- Fans of Emilia Clarke hoping for upcoming projects to revive her career.
Actress Emilia Clarke is popularly known for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen from 2011 to 2019 in HBO’s widely recognized show Game of Thrones. Clarke had replaced Tamzin Merchant as Daenerys Targaryen on the show, and she was critically acclaimed for her performance on the show, which portrayed her character from being an anxious girl into a powerful woman.
Emilia Clarke also starred opposite Sam Claflin in the live-action adaptation of the novel Me Before You. The movie received mixed response despite being a box office success. The actress played Qi’ra in 2016’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, and despite receiving positive responses from the critics and audience, the movie was the second lowest-grossing Star Wars movie. Clarke made her MCU debut with 2021’s Secret Invasion, but unfortunately, it wasn’t a success. The actress is, however, looking forward to leading a new series in the hopes of getting her career back on track.
Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke to lead espionage thriller series PONIES
Actress Emilia Clarke, with her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, became one of the most popular actresses in the industry. She proved to the audience and critics that she is one of the most talented actresses in the industry; however, following her success on Game of Thrones, Clarke’s career hasn’t quite been what one would have expected.
One of the biggest setbacks that the actress had to face was her MCU debut in 2021’s Secret Invasion as G’iah alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, and more. The series was the first in Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the response from the critics and the audience was not what the studios expected. It was heavily criticized for its writing and storyline.
According to recent reports by Variety, Clarke is set to star as the lead in Peacock’s espionage thriller titled PONIES. The show hails from co-creators Susanna Fogel and David Iserson, and the actress is set to serve as the executive producer on the show.
Variety reports that the show is set in Moscow, in 1997, at the height of the Cold War, with the title being an acronym for Persons of No Interest. The show is going to follow two PONIES who work anonymously as secretaries at the U.S. Embassy before their husbands are killed in mysterious circumstances. The situation leads them to become CIA operatives. The other central character is yet to be announced.
The story of the upcoming spy thriller appears to have an interesting plot line. Fans of the actress are hoping that the show can revive her career from going downhill, especially after recent failures. Ponies is also the second espionage thriller series from Peacock, as it will also stream an untitled spy project led by Simu Liu.
PONIES is not the only TV role for Emilia Clarke
Despite Clarke’s recent projects not being able to fulfill the expectations of the studios or the audience, the actress’ performances have shown that she is good at what she does. The Me Before You actress is currently filming for Prime Video’s Criminal, which is a comic adaptation based on Ed Brubaker’s Eisner Award-winning graphic novel, which was originally published by Marvel Comics.
THR reported back in July that Clarke is set to play Mallory, a quick-witted armed robber on the show. The character is best known for her intense, Bonnie and Clyde-like relationship with leader Ricky Lawless, portrayed by Charlie Hunnam. Mallory, along with her intense relationship with the leader, holds a dark secret that could put the whole heist team in jeopardy.
The comic book has been praised for its clever writing and edgy style, and fans are hoping that the show is going to include the same vibe as the novel. Clarke will also lend her voice in the upcoming animated Christmas musical, The Night Before Christmas in Wonderland. She is going to voice the character of Queen of Hearts, Wonderland’s tyrannical and sadistic ruler. The movie is also going to have Gerard Butler and Simone Ashley voicing the characters. (via CBR)
