Actress Emily Blunt now breaks the excitement surrounding Ryan Gosling’s inception into a superhero role, dismissing the idea of him joining the MCU or playing Ghost Rider. Blunt, in an interview with Josh Horowitz’s podcast Happy Sad Confused, said that “Gosling is adamant about not taking on any superhero roles”.

While Horowitz insisted on Gosling’s desire to portray the Ghost Rider during a press conference for The Gray Man,  Blunt disregarded the idea, saying,

No, he doesn’t. I asked him about it. He doesn’t. He’s such a dork, isn’t he? I’m going to really have beef with him about that.

Additionally, she added that she felt like the two of them were wearing it as a badge of honor” for not playing superheroes thus far in their careers.  But there hasn’t been any definite confirmation from Gosling that he’s dismissed the MCU entry.

Ryan Gosling speculated for multiple superhero roles

During an interaction with Josh Horowitz of MTV News in part of the promotion of The Grey Man, directed by the Russo brothers, Gosling shut down speculation that he would be playing Nova, a  character tied to the Nova Corps depicted in Guardians of the Galaxy. However,  he doubled down on his intention to play Ghost Rider, a Marvel character previously played by Nic Cage, during the press tour.

I hope they (the Russo) can manifest this MCU thing. I think that would be cool.”

Moreover, his name was also mentioned in rumors for other superhero roles in the MCU, like Sentry, a powerful character who is both a superhero and a supervillain. However, these hopes were shattered as the role was seemingly assigned to Steven Yeun of The Walking Dead fame. Gosling’s name is also allegedly involved in the upcoming Fantastic Four film, pending confirmation.

Gosling’s idea for playing Ghost Rider might still be on the table if Marvel Studios ever chooses to introduce the character unless he has really ruled it out. Nicolas Cage and Gabriel Luna previously portrayed Ghost Rider in two Sony Pictures movies and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC, respectively.
