Emily Blunt’s 1 Mary Poppins Returns Stunt was so “stressful” That Not Even Tom Cruise’s Edge of Tomorrow or The Fall Guy Stunts Can Beat It
Award-winning actress Emily Blunt is no stranger to action movies. Starring in films like Looper and Sicario has really cemented her place. Her role as a butt-kicking warrior in the 2014 film Edge of Tomorrow even earned her a Critics Choice Award. Recently, she has been involved in some seriously risky stunts in her latest movie, The Fall Guy, too.
With this, she has now earned her spot among the best in daring acts and thrilling stunts. But amidst all her impressive feats, one moment stands out above the rest.
When asked about the most nerve-wracking stunt of her career to date, surprisingly, it wasn’t something like fighting aliens or jumping off buildings. Blunt revealed it was her high-flying entrance in Mary Poppins Returns.
Emily Blunt’s Most Dangerous Stunt to Date
Taking on the famous role of Mary Poppins in the titular 2018 sequel wasn’t just all about magic for Emily Blunt. Surprisingly, in the film, a seemingly easy scene required more bravery than any action-packed fight scene.
“That entrance was very stressful for me,” the 41-year-old actress confessed to People. The scene required her to hang from wires and slowly come down towards the ground while holding the iconic umbrella. “I’m supposed to walk effortlessly into my close-up as if it’s nothing,” she explained.
Despite nailing the scene in three takes, the pressure was immense for the British beauty. “I did three takes and then I felt my tolerance go, ‘Pfft!’ And that was it. I was done,” she recalled. Director Rob Marshall pushed her for a fourth take, but Blunt stood firm. “I did three takes and I could see Rob gearing up to do another one. I was like, ‘Nope, no, no, no, I’m done.’ It was over,” she laughed.
Even though the umbrella scene may have been stressful, the mom of two admitted that the other iconic stunt in the movie, where Mary Poppins zooms backwards into a magical bathtub, was much easier. “That was okay. That was a slide,” she asserted.
The Fall Guy Director Believes Love is the Most Dangerous Stunt
Emily Blunt’s latest film, The Fall Guy, is an action-comedy reboot of the classic 80s TV show. The Hollywood actress takes on the role of a movie director (Jody Moreno) alongside Ryan Gosling‘s stunt performer character (Colt Seavers). While the film features a record-breaking number of car flips, explosions, and fights, director David Leitch provided an unexpected take on the movie’s biggest stunt.
“I think the biggest stunt is falling in love,” Leitch explained to the same outlet. He continued that the central romance between Blunt and Gosling’s characters as the driving force of the film. “It’s been great for us as filmmakers to plant this big love story in the middle of this action piece… Love is the most dangerous stunt,” the 48-year-old filmmaker concluded.
The Fall Guy is now screening in theaters.
