Ryan Gosling Believes There Can Be No Ken Without Barbie

Ryan Gosling had one of the weirdest reactions on being nominated for Oscars this year. The 43-year-old actor secured an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Barbie. Neither Greta Gerwig nor Margot Robbie was nominated in any category for the Oscars. According to the media outlet People, Ryan Gosling had mixed feelings about his achievement which was quite evident in his statement.

“There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius,”

His statement further mentioned-

“Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees. “I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films. And I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken,”

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie went on to achieve phenomenal success both financially and critically. With the excellent marketing strategy led by the American doll manufacturing companies Mattel and WB, the world was painted in pink with respect to the promotion of the fantasy doll drama. Barbie went on to amass $1.4 billion against a budget of $128-$145 million, leaving behind Oppenheimer, the magnum opus project of Christopher Nolan.
